Stress Relief Products for Mom

A beauty mobile app and a metro Detroit shop selling various essential oils will bring southeast Michigan moms much-needed relaxation.

Moms have some crazy long to-do lists, and in between all the work, errands and parenting, there’s not always much time to relax. That’s where The Glam App and Choice Bath & Boddy LLC can help. The two services allow mom to squeeze in some much-needed stress relief. Here’s what they offer.

The Glam App

Holidays can be festive and frenetic at the same time. But moms now have it easier on the fashion front with The Glam App, the brainchild of Birmingham native Joey Maalouf, an LA celebrity hair/makeup artist, and actress/blogger Cara Santana.

Already launched in 17 cities, including Detroit and London, the app brings beauty pros to your door. Book an appointment within an hour for services ranging from a blow-dry and makeup application to mani/pedi or quick polish change. Over 36 stylists are part of the Detroit team. Maalouf’s sister, Lucy Kaji, is already a fan.

“We’re crazy busy,” says Kaji, a Commerce Township mom of five. “I love that I don’t have to find a babysitter and I can get my hair and nails done while my son is taking a nap.” Services run $40-$100; the app is free in the iTunes App Store.

Choices Bath & Body LLC

Feel stressed? This Shelby Township shop has solutions. Owner Helga Soave, a chemist turned aesthetician, draws inspiration from her native Germany, where she grew up appreciating essential oils and the unique scents of plants in her village.

Using only natural ingredients, her bath and body products are handmade in Michigan without chemicals or artificial fragrances. Soave has sold her blends nationwide for more than six years, but her storefront just opened in June.

“Your body knows what you need,” she says. And Choices provides many options, from custom-scented moisturizers to a line of baby products (she recommends essential oils for ages 5-plus). With nine nieces and nephews ages 2-18, “There is never a shortage of wants and needs. Most of them invariably include pink grapefruit in their blends, though ylang ylang and peppermint are hits as well.”

Soave recommends chamomile and orange to soothe kids (try a Happy Citrus Showertherapy tab) and lavender/peppermint to relax moms and curb headaches.
