Freebies for Vaccinated People in Metro Detroit and Ann Arbor

These spots offering free items or discounts to people who can prove they have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

It now pays to keep your COVID-19 vaccination card on you.

Other than the obvious benefit of getting the COVID-19 vaccine — namely lowering the risk of contracting COVID-19 — businesses in Michigan and across the country are offering special perks to those who can prove they’re vaccinated.

Krispy Kreme doughnuts started the trend in March, offering up the extra incentive to “help show support for those getting the vaccine,” Dave Skena, Chief Marketing Officer for the brand, told USA Today.

While publicly supporting the vaccine may help persuade hesitant Americans to get vaccinated, the resistance to getting vaccinated is improving. Last week, 61% of adults either received a dose or want one — up from 47% in January, reports the New York Times. The CDC maintains that COVID-19 vaccine decreases the likelihood of contracting the disease and may make symptoms easier to beat if people do get sick.

Still, the percentage of adults who remain skeptical could impede the race to herd immunity, says the Biden administration, but perhaps a free doughnut or beer could help sweeten the deal.

Here, you’ll find a list of local spots and national chains offering free items or discounts with proof of vaccination.
