Have you ever ordered something online that turned out to be not quite what you bargained for?
I sure have. It was a super cute crop top that was perfect for a vacation I was taking, but when it came in, it looked like they could have fit a Cabbage Patch Kid.
I’m not sure if I missed something in the listing or if the seller just left out the fact that the shirt ran super small, but it went back to the seller and I learned a valuable lesson about ordering stuff on the Internet.
Kelsey Dawn Williamson of Illinois learned a similar lesson after ordering her 3-year-old daughter, Salem, a shirt from China-based online retailer, AliExpress.com.
Williamson had ordered from this retailer before. In fact, she says Salem has more than 50 outfits from the website, so she was totally shocked when she finally received the tee and found that the retailer had taken some – uh – creative licenses with it.
You see, the $5 white T-shirt, which was labeled “Kids Two Frog Riding Design Baby Boys/Girl TShirt Kids Funny Short Sleeve Tops Children Cute T-Shirt,” was supposed to depict Frog and Toad, the main characters from the classic children’s books by Arnold Lobel, riding a bike together.
The shirt that she got did indeed feature this image, but beneath the it, written in gold and all caps, was the slogan “f— the police.”
Williamson and her husband had a good laugh about the shirt and then posted a photo of Salem, who has no idea what it says, to Facebook, where it received some 67,000 reactions.
“I literally did not know how to react so I just took a few moments to stare at it and try to process,” Williamson told Buzzfeed News. “Of all the things they could have added, why that? On a children’s-size shirt?”
It turns out that back in 2010, Frog and Toad were turned into a meme that is associated with this slogan.
Still, any human small enough to wear the shirt Williamson ordered is probably not old enough to engage in protests against the man, so I’m just as confused as to how it ends up on a children’s shirt… amused, but confused.
I guess that goes to show what we all already know: Be careful what you wish for – especially if you order it on the Internet. You never really know exactly what you’re going to get.
