Madonna Slammed, Called 'World's Worst Celebrity Parent'

Recently, New York Post writer Andrea Peyser wrote a piece dubbing Madonna “the world’s worst celebrity parent,” calling her a “narcissistic parental disaster.” All of this comes in the face of her recent battles with ex-husband Guy Ritchie over their 15-year-old son Rocco. What’s going on here?

To catch you up, Page Six reports Rocco was ordered by a judge to spend Christmas with his mom in New York City, even though he’d rather be with dad in London after touring with his mom. He is currently in London, according to TMZ.

Sources who told the rag, “Rocco wants a stable home life and feels like he’s more of a trophy on tour than a son,” while they’ve been told Madonna believes Guy bad-mouthed her to their son. TMZ reports the family has a court date next month over it all.

Aside from this, the New York Post article points out a few incidences of Madonna’s quibbles with her teens, like when she threw away 19-year-old Lourdes’ clothes for not picking them up off the floor, the time she posted a goofy picture of Rocco wearing pigtails to social media, and how she expects her kids to follow her strict macrobiotic diet.

It sounds like many of the other struggles she has encountered as a parent in the past have been the kind any parent of teens would encounter, like in 2013 when she told Good Morning America Rocco was “looking at girl’s butts” and her daughter Lourdes was ignoring her since getting an iPhone. More recently, she took Rocco’s cellphone away because he wasn’t focused on his homework, Yahoo Parenting reports.

And a teen not wanting to spend time with his mom? Not so shocking. A teen not picking up her clothes from the floor? Also not shocking. Taking your teen’s cellphone away? Big whoop.

Madonna appeared to be sticking up for herself following the “world’s worst celebrity parent” designation, posting a photo of her and her four kids on Instagram with the caption, “It’s possible to be an entertainer and a good mother! Too bad we don’t live in a society where many encourage strong independent single working moms! The next great frontier!”

But honestly, who cares about all of this? I, for one, don’t follow Madonna or any of the happenings in her life, so I don’t care. I understand divorces and custody battles can get nasty, so for that, I just feel for the family. But if we’re going to throw around designations of “world’s worst” in any category, shouldn’t it have some truly justified reason? From what I’m reading, what really makes her that horrible of a parent? No, seriously. Nothing I’m reading sounds like child abuse, neglect or anything egregious. This all sounds like run-of-the-mill family drama to me.

What are your thoughts on Madonna being called “world’s worst celebrity parent”? Do you agree, or do you think this is not worthy of a conversation?
