Goodbye, six-pack – hello, spare tire? That’s what it’s looking like for Ken now that he got a makeover. Hot on the heels of his counterpart’s transformation (in case you’ve been living under a rock, Barbie now comes in curvy, petite and tall models), the Ken doll just became a lot more relatable.
Barbie’s recent makeover left some people wondering, “What about Ken?” Could he ever ditch his six-pack for a DadBod? Well, thanks to clothing retailer Lyst, MTV reports that he finally did. That’s right: men now have their own more realistic plastic dolls.
The company “enlisted graphic artist Jamie Phillips to redesign Ken to more accurately reflect the kind of men that live in our world, and they look great,” MTV adds.
There’s DadBod Ken, Bearded Hipster Ken and Balding Ken, but there’s also petite Ken for the shorter guys in your life, as well as black and Asian Ken dolls, The Stir adds.
I would totally buy one of these dolls for my kids. They crack me up – but they are also pretty awesome. Why not be a little more realistic with dolls like this? I know they are just for play, but that doesn’t mean we need to give kids a false idea of what people should look like.
My personal fave is DadBod Ken. How can you not love a doll with a little extra padding around the middle?
These aren’t going to be for sale any time soon, but I’d love to see Mattel and Phillips team up to get these dolls on shelves.
