There are no parenting manuals out there, but if there were, “tattooing your child’s hand” would be on the list of don’ts for unlicensed tattoo artists.
But that didn’t stop New York mom Chantilly Thomas from tattooing the hands of her two sons, ages 12 and 13, The Stir reports.
Thomas, who is not licensed to tattoo, police say, tattooed a lightening bolt on the back of one son’s hand and “Ride or Die” on her other son’s hand. This incident happened late in November 2015, People reports, and the mom has been charged with “unlawfully dealing with a child.”
First of all, I don’t know if the kids asked for mom to tattoo their hands, but I’m going to say that even if they did, she should not have done this. I feel especially sorry for the son who now has “Ride or Die” on the back of his hand. He has to go through life with this on his hand, which is visible to anyone he interacts with. Yes, he can get it removed later, but one Google search shows the average range of $200 to $500 per treatment session. How many sessions would it take to remove the tattoo?
And if the mom did it as some sort of sick punishment – again, just my speculation – then she shouldn’t be allowed to parent these kids. She put them in such danger, especially if she wasn’t following any sort of safety precautions with the needle she used. She could have caused them some sort of infection.
