“Look Simba, everything the light touches is our kingdom.”
Or the basketball court.
There’s a new trend sweeping the NBA and it’s simply adorable. Instead of the usual “kiss cam” you see at sporting events, where couples pose for a kiss when the cameras turn their way, this new cam is less about celebrating lovebirds and more about remembering the young ruler of Pride Rock.
It’s a Lion King Cam and it gives parents of little ones the chance to lift their babies in the air just like Rafiki did after Simba was born. You know, that incredible moment engrained in your childhood memories when the whole animal kingdom celebrates the lion cub’s birth? And the sun breaks through the clouds, shining on Simba and all the animals bow to their new future king? All to the chanting tune of the Circle of Life? Yep, that moment.
You know you want to, so go ahead and watch it again now. Trust us, it’s just as magical as when you were 10. Maybe even more now that we have our own Simbas at home. (Except now we’re thinking, “you better not drop him!”)
Anyway, the Lion King Cam lets you relive that awesome scene with your own little cub if you’re at a Phoenix Suns game, Huffington Post reports.
And the babies seem to love it, many of them smiling and giggling as seen in this video.

Other babies sleep through it or seem neutral about being lifted in the air Simba-style. Whatever the case, the cuteness factor is off the charts. In fact, the non-sports-fans here at Metro Parent would consider attending a game just for this.
It looks like the Denver Nuggets have done the Lion King Cam, too, along with baseball team the Atlanta Braves and others. We can only hope this adorable trend continues – along with the kiss cams, we guess. As Mufasa once told Simba, “Everything you see exists together in a delicate balance.”
Do you love the Lion King Cam as much as we do? Tell us in the comments!
