Principal Fed Up with PJ-Wearing Moms

Have you ever dropped your kids off for school while you’re still in pajamas? Come on – be honest. If you have, you might be aggravated to find out that a principal in the UK recently sent a letter home to parents asking them not to wear pajamas when they drop their kids off at school, Huffington Post UK reports.

Principal Kate Chisholm noticed a lot of parents wearing their pajamas when dropping kids at the school’s gates – and even at assemblies and school meetings – so she decided to take matters into her own hands.

In her letter to parents, she writes, “I have noticed there has been an increasing tendency for parents to escort children to and from school while still wearing their pyjamas and, on occasion, even slippers. Could I please ask that when you are escorting your children, you take the time to dress appropriately in day wear that is suitable for the weather conditions.”

She goes on to say that she’d like parents to set a good example for children. Huffington Post UK notes that the letter has received a positive response so far.

And in some ways, I can see why.

On one hand, I agree with this principal. When did it become OK to go out in public in pajamas? No one wants to see your cupcake pajama pants in public – not at school, not at the grocery store and not out for breakfast. I’d like to say the same thing about yoga pants – they are for the gym or an exercise class, but that’s another debate for a different time. Parents, don’t roll out of bed and go!

Get your lives together. I know it’s hard getting kids ready for school, but take a few minutes to change into something else before you leave the house, or get ready before you get your children dressed.

On the other hand, this principal should probably focus on running the school and providing a proper education to the students instead of policing their parents’ wardrobes. These people are bringing their kids to school every day to get an education – and should she really care how they look doing it?

Maybe this school has no problems and this principal has nothing else to focus on, but I’m going to guess that there are actually biggest issues for her to worry about. She should stick to keeping an eye on students.

What do you think? Is it OK to go out in pajamas or is this principal overreacting? Tell us in the comments below.
