My husband and I are supposed to alternate grocery shopping each week to help us strike a balance in our household responsibilities. How is that going, you might ask? Well, I just handled his grocery shopping “week” earlier this week, so you can see how well this has gone for us.
I own that part of this is my fault. I could just not go grocery shopping on his weeks, and then at some point he would be forced to go. But then my child and I would starve, so I just handle it – like so many other things when the bulk of the housework falls to moms like me.
So, when I saw the post about a woman who made a fake grocery list for her husband, I chuckled and then wondered why I never thought of that of doing that to my husband.
Karen Alpert, a mom of two, was so irritated with her husband’s lack of effort around the house that she sent him to the grocery store with one very interesting list of items to purchase it.
She posted the list – which included things like unsour cream and diet diet coke, which she notes that he “might have to ask because it’s new,” to her Facebook page, Baby Sideburns.
“OMG my hubby has been lying on the couch all morning while I’m doing soooo much stuff so I finally got super annoyed and sent him to the grocery store… with a special shopping list. And yes, I turned my ringer off,” she captioned the pic.
Yes, she turned her ringer off. Savage!
Other items included wheat thins (the ones in the blue box), mellow cheese, 3-percent milk, seedless strawberries, organic pop tarts and fat-free hummus.
I can only imagine the confusion on this man’s face in the middle of the grocery store. I wonder if he did, in fact, ask about that “new” diet diet coke or if he quickly realized this was a prank.
Some might think this could have ended up blowing up in mom’s face. We want our husbands to do more, but then we send them off with a fake grocery list as a way to get even – will they ever actually want to shop for food again?
To be honest, though, I think it’s hilarious and I can’t say I blame Alpert for doing this to her husband. He needs to pull his weight a bit more, it seems. And I’m hoping he was a good sport about the whole thing. It doesn’t appear that Alpert has updated her social media followers, so we still don’t know how her hubby handled the shopping fiasco.
I can only hope he’s realized it’s time to help out a bit more around the house.
What do you think of this woman’s grocery list prank? Would you do it to your husband or do you think it’s mean?
