Home was where the heart was for Jennifer Fox, 33, and her husband Karl, 32. They moved back to Michigan – Shelby Township, specifically – before having their daughters, Aurora, 5 and Lennox, 2. Learn a bit about Jennifer, who also works as a pathologists’ assistant at Ascension Michigan.
Describe your journey to parenthood.
“After college, I moved to Tennessee. While there, my husband and I got married and bought a house. When it was time to start our family, we decided we didn’t want to be so far away from our families in Michigan. So we bought a new house, both started new jobs and within a year we were pregnant with our first daughter.”
What do you love most about being a mom?
“I love the way that my girls look at me. They see me as their provider, protector, role model and never-ending supply of love. They make me want to be a better person.”
What’s your biggest parenting challenge?
“I am a soft-spoken pushover at times. It is sometimes hard for me stand up to a 5-going-on-15-year-old.”
What is the thing you miss most from your non-mom days?
“I miss watching whatever I want on TV!”
Describe your best day as a mom.
“I love exposing my daughters to new things. I remember the first time taking my older daughter to the zoo and she pointed and ooh’ed and ahh’ed at every animal. I love seeing the world through their innocent eyes.”
What advice would you give new parents?
“Slow down. Stop worrying about the chores/errands you have to run. Enjoy the time with your kids now. Before you know it, they will be grown. I already can’t believe how quickly five years have gone by in the blink of an eye. My baby will be starting kindergarten!”
What thing or things get you through your days?
“Knowing that I am setting a good example for my daughters keeps me going. I want them to grow up to be successful, independent women. I want to show them, through example, that they should work hard, be self-disciplined and be good to others.”
What do you like about living in southeast Michigan?
“Being close to our families. I love seeing my daughters interact with their grandparents. Their bond is so incredible, and I’m so glad to be close to all of them.”
Celebrity mom you most relate to and why?
“Kristen Bell – we both have two daughters and a lovable, goofy husband (who are also wonderful dads!).”
