Step aside, therapists. There’s a new generation of guides on the horizon. The “millennial life coach” is a thing – and Hailey Yatros of Novi is one of them.
Just 22, Yatros knows all about setting goals, loving yourself and making the most of your time. She’s worked since she was 13, moved out at 17 and, by 19, was working at Dale Carnegie, mainly as an instructor and coach.
“I am not your typical life coach,” she says. “I coach from multiple different aspects. I do most of my coaching through my books and my blog (on YouTube) and group coaching.” She loves people, and has for as long as she can remember.
“My mom said when I was like 3 years old, I would run up to strangers in the grocery store, hug them and say ‘I love you,'” she laughs.
With one book under her belt and another due this year, this college grad is full of fresh wisdom. Here are her top five tips for her fellow teen/20-somethings in 2016.
1. Be authentic.
“Be yourself, 100 percent,” Yatros says. “It’s one of the hardest things ever, buts it’s the number one thing I tell everybody.” It’s also important to not listen to your critics and work toward achieving your goals, even if it seems insignificant.
2. Accept yourself.
Be gentle on yourself. You don’t need to have all the answers for your life. You just need to start. If you can’t seem to “find your passion,” start with your curiosity. Follow what lights you up. “Be OK with who you are.”
3. Keep love close.
Once you discover and accept yourself, do the same for others, Yatros says. “Keep love in the center of everything that you do. There is nothing more important than the acceptance of love in our lives.”
4. Find good friends.
“Be very careful who you develop friendships with,” she says. “The top five people you are around, is who you become.”
5. Search for the lesson.
“We are here to love and to learn lessons,” Yatros says. If you find the lessons in all the troubles you encounter, those troubles are easier to accept.
