Family Movies Coming Out in 2022

2022 is welcoming tons of family-friendly flicks. Here are 19 of our favorite kids movies coming out this year.

Hotel Transylvania: Transformania

Premieres Jan. 14, 2022

The fourth installment of Hotel Transylvania is here! The evil Dr. Van Helsig invents a machine that turns the monsters into people, and people into monsters, leading to Drac and Johnny switching places.

Riverdance: The Animated Adventure

Premieres Jan. 14, 2022

Based on the Riverdance stage show, this animated movie follows an Irish boy named Keegan and a Spanish girl named Moya as they journey into a mythical world.

Ice Age: Adventures of Buck Wild

Premieres Jan. 28, 2022

Possum brothers Crash and Eddie set out to find a place of their own, but find themselves trapped in the Lost World until they are rescued by weasel Buck Wild, and together embark on a mission to save the Lost World from dinosaur domination.



Premieres Feb. 18, 2022

Luck is about an unlucky girl who, after stumbling upon the never-before-seen world of good and bad luck, must join together with magical creatures to uncover a force more powerful than luck itself.


Turning Red

Premieres March 11, 2022

  • Where to watch: Disney+

The movie follows Meilin “Mei” Lee, a confident 13-year-old girl, whenever she gets too excited or stressed, she “poofs” into a giant red panda due to her ancestors’ mystical connection with red pandas.


Sonic The Hedgehog 2

Premieres April 8, 2022

  • Where to watch: Theaters

In this Sonic the Hedgehog sequel, Sonic and Tails must prevent Doctor Eggman and Knuckles the Echidna from finding the Master Emerald.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

Premieres April 11, 2022

The third installment of the Fantastic Beast films, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, revolves around Professor Albus Dumbledore who tries to stop the powerful, dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald as he moves to seize control of the wizarding world.

The Bad Guys

  • Where to watch: TheatersBased on the Scholastic book series by Aaron Blabey, The Bad Guys is about five animal outlaws (Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snake, Ms. Tarantula, Mr. Shark and Mr. Piranha) who decide to go good.


DC League of Super-Pets

Premieres May 20, 2022

The Justice League find themselves captured by Lex Luthor. Superman’s dog, Krypto, and form a team of shelter pets with superpowers.



Premieres June 17, 2022

A spin-off of Pixar’s Toy Story series, Lightyear is the origin story for the fictional character Buzz Lightyear, who inspired the action figure of the same name.


Minions: The Rise of Gru

Premieres July 1, 2022

This prequel to Minions tracks the origin story of the Despicable Me supervillain with a heart of gold, Gru, as a 12 year old in the 1970s.


Puss in Boots: The Last Wish

Premieres Sept. 23, 2022

Puss in Boots has burned through eight of his nine lives, leaving him with only one left. He sets out on an epic journey to find the mystical Last Wish and restore his nine lives.


Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part One

Oct. 7, 2022

Spider-Man goes on an adventure across the multiverse with Spider-Woman and a new team of Spider-People who must face a powerful villain.


Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile

Premieres Nov. 18, 2022

The popular children’s book hits the big screen in a movie musical starring Javier Bardem and Constance Wu.


Untitled Super Mario Bros. film

Premieres Dec. 21, 2022

  • Where to watch: Theaters

Universal Pictures has kept all details of this movie hush hush. All we know so far is Chris Pratt will voice Mario, along with more well-known actors voicing the other video game characters.

Hocus Pocus 2

  • Where to watch: Disney+After popular fan demand, the Sanderson sisters will return in time for Halloween. Little details about the movie have been released.

Strange World

  • Where to watch: In theaters

Strange World follows a family of explorers traveling deep into an uncharted and treacherous land where fantastical creatures await.


  • Where to watch: Disney+The live action version of this classic movie stars Tom Hanks as Geppetto.


  • Where to watch: Disney+

The long-awaited sequel to the 2007 movie Enchanted, Giselle questions her happiness, inadvertently turning the lives of those in the real world and Andalasia upside down in the process.
