Go Like the Wind Montessori
Whitmore Lake, MI, 48189, US
Since 1987, Go Like the Wind Montessori has offered Ann Arbor-area families a high-quality Montessori education for their children Ñ from infancy through eighth grade.
"Our classrooms are calm, focused and nurturing, which develops strong character in our students including integrity, compassion and respect," says Briget Sawallich, the school's director of finance and operations. "Go Like the Wind teaches grace and courtesy at all levels Ñ this means every child is respected by their own peers along with all staff members."
The school's core curriculum includes areas of practical life, language, geography, math, sensorial lessons and science. There are also after-school activities for the children to take part in.
"The challenging curriculum and multi-age classrooms allow our children to be both leaders and learners," Sawallich says. "The Montessori program naturally accommodates to the child's needs and give the student the opportunity to develop as an individual. Students at all levels are given responsibility and taught accountability."
Students are expected to participate in music, art and physical education at Go Like the Wind Montessori. Students are welcome to join band, jazz band and orchestra, as well. The school's music program is unique Ñ each student has an opportunity to help with producing the concerts throughout the year. Each year, Go Like the Wind releases a CD that features original songs performed by the students.
Art classes are offered for toddlers and older students. A variety of materials including painting, fibers, printmaking, drawing, collages and 3D materials are used in these classes.
Every child is expected to participate in physical education and when they reach middle school, they can go off campus to participate in physical education at a local university.
Go Like the Wind Montessori is a Michigan Green School and participates in recycling and composting. The school has started many green projects including a garden, a butterfly garden and a bat garden. They take many green field trips throughout the year, are "friends of the bees" and celebrate Earth Day.
Children embrace different ethnicities and cultures at this Washtenaw County school, too. During International Night, which is the school's largest event, students are given the opportunity to explore and learn about other cultures. The event promotes the school's diversity and helps students learn more about each other Ñ and their own traditions.
The school partners with families to help each child reach his or her potential. In fact, parents have a huge impact on the school. Parents can join their Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) and work with the teachers and administrators to make their child's school experience great. Moms and dads can use their strengths to help Go Like the Wind Montessori with events, fundraising and much more.
"Go Like the Wind is a strong, loving and caring community of teachers and families," Sawallich says. "Our low teacher-to-student ratio, individual care, great atmosphere and loving teachers make us the best Montessori education for your child."
Tuition costs vary depending on the age of the child. There are full- and half-day options, in addition to financial aid resources for families, as well as payment options and sibling discounts for those with more than one child in the school. The school provides before- and after-school care for children who need it and bus transportation for ages 3 and up from Northeast Ann Arbor.
