Located in the heart of Birmingham, The Baldwin House boasts apartment-style living for seniors in an independent atmosphere while offering conveniences and services to make their lives easier and safer.
“Our residents typically have retired, have a spouse or partner who passed away, or who want worry-free living in a quaint, vibrant community and regular social interactions with other residents,” says Alyssa LaFave, community relations director at The Baldwin House.
The 131 apartment units at The Baldwin House are open to those age 55 and older. There are several floor plans available at The Baldwin House including one-bedroom units, two bedrooms with one bathroom units and two bedrooms with two bathroom units. Most of the apartments have balconies and all have features like neutral carpeting and window treatments, a dishwasher, four-burner stove, microwave, safety hand-rails in the bathroom, wiring for cable and internet access, and an emergency call system.
Residents also have access to laundry facilities on each floor, secured parking, an on-site hair salon and barber shop, a fitness center, movie theater with surround sound, an in-house library and access to 24-hour staffing. The Baldwin House also permit pets, though restrictions apply.
The Baldwin House offers its residents meals and housekeeping services as well as transportation services – both scheduled and individual transportation to specific destinations. SMART Bus routes and Dial-a-Ride transportation services are also nearby.
Both the The Baldwin House and in the surrounding community provide plenty of opportunities for activities.
“We do group outings and we have a full activities calendar. There is a diner’s club that visits a different local restaurant each month. There are also outings to the theater, farmers markets and other local attractions,” LaFave says.
The Baldwin House is located near Shain Park, the Birmingham Public Library, local shops and restaurants and the movie theater – which are all within walking distance. “We really pride ourselves on our location. It’s a very walkable area with many things to do very nearby,” she adds.
In fact, Birmingham was named one of the top 20 most walkable communities by Walkable Communities, Inc. of High Springs, Florida.
While The Baldwin House and the surrounding area offers plenty of activities and amenities, it also provides concerned family members peace of mind about their loved ones.
“Maybe a loved one has had a few falls in their own home. Without calling or coming over daily, the loved one’s family members may not know right away that he or she is hurt. Being in a community with others, meals and emergency call services in the apartment, it puts the family’s mind at ease to know someone is always here,” LaFave says. “They will be around other people, so if something did happen, we would know about it right away and get them the help they need.”
If the resident needs extra care for any reason, The Baldwin House welcomes the in-home services offered by third-party organizations.
