Discover Munising Falls
Munising Falls is a stunning waterfall located right in town. The Munising Falls Trail is a short, easy hike suitable for families and leads to a viewing platform with a beautiful view of the falls.
- What families are saying: “This waterfall is an easy walk to get to. I think it would be great for families with young kids (under 5). The waterfall is beautiful and since it is so easy to get to there were a lot of people there! So just be warned if you go in the peak traveling months of summer if you don’t like crowds.” — Desirae M, Tripadvisor
See the Munising Lighthouses
Located on Grand Island, the Munising Range Lighthouses are accessible by a short ferry ride. Not only will you learn about the local maritime history, but you’ll see a stunning view of Lake Superior.
Go to the Pictured Rocks Interpretive Center
The Pictured Rocks Interpretive Center offers a variety of interactive exhibits and educational programs about the history of the area. Kids will enjoy the hands-on displays while everyone can learn more about the park’s geology and wildlife.
- What families are saying: This isn’t the official national park site, but it does a great job of explaining some of the details behind Pictured Rocks and their history. We especially liked the movie (about 15 minutes long) which gave some background of the entire area and the discovery and development of Pictured Rocks and the surrounding area. There was also a separate room which had some exhibits and information about the place and previous time periods. — SnowyShasta, Tripadvisor
Drive the M-28 Scenic Byway
Enjoy a leisurely drive along the M-28 Scenic Byway. This route offers beautiful views of Lake Superior, dense forests and quaint little towns. It’s a relaxing and easy way to experience the area.
Don’t miss Hiawatha National Forest
Explore the Hiawatha National Forest, which offers a variety of trails for hiking and biking. The forest has a diverse ecosystem and the scenic beauty gives Pictured Rocks a (small) run for its money!
- What families are saying: “The entire family (and dog) enjoyed our time in wonderful Hiawatha Forest. The hiking trail (Bruno’s Run) we took started with a stunning cathedral of Hemlock trees and there are lots of lakes along the way, too. We didn’t hike the entire trail but spent about 3 hours walking part of it and retracing our path back. Wish we would have had more time to spend in Hiawatha and would return if we ever have the opportunity!” — la-la-land503, Tripadvisor
