Trade city life for some time on the farm this summer at Black River Farm and Ranch. Located in Croswell, Michigan, this overnight summer camp, which has been in operation since 1962, offers the ultimate equestrian experience for girls ages 5-16.
This technology-free camp is dedicated to fostering a love of animals, friendship and independence – and has succeeded in doing just that for more than five decades.
There are more than 70 different horses to choose from at this family-owned and -operated camp, and, throughout a camper’s stay, she’ll get to take a horse out on trail rides, receive mounted and ground lessons – for an hour and a half each day – and enjoy free riding time (that’s supervised, of course).
While horseback riding is the main attraction, there are plenty of other activities for campers to experience at Black River Farm and Ranch, including swimming in the pool, crafts, archery, tennis and basketball, paddle boating and more. During the evening, there are camp-wide “crazy games” and additional programming to experience, as well.
Get mom in on the fun during a mother-daughter retreat! Whether mom is a Black River alumni or wants to get a feel for what her daughter does during her camp stay, this is the ideal opportunity to check things out – and enjoy riding lessons, trail rides, swimming and more. Plus, it’s a great chance for some tech-free quality time between mom and daughter.
There are three different weeks to choose from in summer 2020:
- June 11-14
- June 18-21
- Aug. 15-18
From June 14 until June 17, there is also a Starter Camp for first-time campers. Explore one-week and two-week camp options throughout the summer, too – with the final camp beginning on Aug. 9. One- and two-week sessions can be combined for a four-week stay for those who are interested in giving their daughters a bit more time at Black River this summer.
