Celebrating Macomb County Teachers of the Year

Macomb County has many dedicated, hardworking teachers who guide and encourage our kids every day. Here are the Outstanding Teachers of 2023.

It’s hard to measure the gratitude we, as parents, feel for the hard work teachers do in our kids’ classrooms every single day. No matter what, they support our kids and help them achieve their highest potential.

That’s why it’s so wonderful to know that the Macomb County Association of School Administrators and the Macomb Association of Curriculum Administrators have long recognized the exceptional work of educators in Macomb County.

On April 20, 2023, some very special teachers across Macomb County become 2023 Macomb County Outstanding Teachers of the Year. This is an annual event that has taken place for 37 years.

“The positive impact teachers have in the lives of our students is demonstrated every day through their standards-based lessons and the nurturing environment they create for all students. They truly make a difference,” says Dr. Alesia Flye, Chief Academic Officer for the Macomb Intermediate School District.

More than 60 Macomb County educators receive this high distinction. Among this group, three teachers receive special recognition for the work they do.

Tiffany Saigh from Rainbow Elementary of Clintondale Schools, Kathleen Campau from Richmond Middle School at Richmond Schools, and Shawn Moore from the Math/Science and Technology Center at Warren Consolidated Schools are recognized for their dedication and positive impact — and all were nominated by the principal or director of their respective schools.

  • As the lead fifth grade teacher in the Clintondale Schools district, Tiffany Saigh organizes multiple events and efforts including an after-school empowerment program for girls. She champions social-emotional learning so that all students can “learn at their highest level.”
  • Coach for the FIRST Lego Robotics team, an active member of the school improvement team and a frequent presenter at state-level educational conferences, Kathleen Campau also runs after-school academic programs to support middle school football players and Spanish and Japanese language classes.
  • His caring approach to helping students succeed in the midst of COVID losses is just one of the reasons Shawn Moore, who teaches AP calculus and functions, statistics and trigonometry (FST) at MMSTC, is recognized this year. Moore has several leadership roles including planning for new textbooks, data review, assistance with PSAT, MSTEP and AP testing, as well as leading the school’s Ecology Club and organizing travel logistics for the robotics team.

A group of outstanding teachers

“We want to congratulate these educators who have devoted their lives to making a positive difference. We are very fortunate to have dedicated and caring teachers throughout Macomb County and we thank all our educators for making a significant contribution to the profession,” says Michael DeVault, Superintendent for the Macomb Intermediate School District.
