Your Birmingham Neighborhood Grocery and Cafe

For convenient full-service grocery shopping in your own community, Holiday Market Select is the place you can call your own.

On those days when you’re out running errands and getting groceries is on your to-do list, wouldn’t it be nice to have a neighborhood store that has everything you need in a space that’s just the right size and close to home?

At Holiday Market Select in Birmingham, you can find all you need in just 5,000 square feet. Busy parents love the convenience of a small, manageable grocery store that has everything they need to feed their growing family, says Tom Violante, Jr., co-owner and operator of Holiday Market, the gourmet grocery store in Royal Oak, and the expanded and remodeled Holiday Market Select in Birmingham.

A small-footprint store is simply more manageable than an expansive mega-mart — especially if you have little ones in tow. But the grocery professionals at Holiday Market know you never want to sacrifice quality for ease, so they have pared down to offer a few thoughtful selections in each department.

At Holiday Market Select, you can do your shopping quickly and easily without getting overwhelmed. Your family will be thrilled with your choices, too, Violante says.

“Each item on our shelves has been hand-selected with plenty of thought and care. Holiday Market Select is everything you want and need in a small grocery,” he says. “You’ll always find some pleasant surprises, and you’ll never be inundated with more choices than you actually need,” says Violante, who runs the family-owned Holiday Market locations with his sister and brother-in-law, Gina and Craig Mangold.

When hunger strikes

It never fails that when you’re out shopping, your stomach will remind you that it’s time to eat — and your kids’ stomachs may be even more insistent. At Holiday Market Select, you can all relax with a hot, made-to-order baguette sandwich or hot croissant breakfast sandwich — and an espresso to keep you going.

“Our inspiration for our cafe at Holiday Market Select is a streetside cafe in Paris, where you can sit and have a coffee, a sandwich on a fresh, warm baguette or croissant and have an amazing moment,” Violante says.

“Our Holiday Deluxe breakfast sandwich is great at any time of the day. It’s a baked egg, fresh avocado, arugula, tomato and our house-made chipotle cream cheese on a croissant. The veggies make it really fresh and the chipotle cream cheese offers the right amount of kick to get you going in the morning,” he adds.

You may even find yourself stopping by Holiday Market Select just for a tempting warm sandwich, he adds. “It can be a high point in your day, right in your own neighborhood gathering spot.” Holiday Market Select’s signature Birthday Cake Latte is inspired by their bakery’s custom cakes and it’s a nice way to treat yourself — and not just on your birthday.

Later this spring, you’ll have even more reason to visit Holiday Market Select as the store debuts premium ice cream with luscious flavors that will tempt everyone in the family.

And because dinnertime will roll around before you know it, it’s never a bad idea to think ahead. On those evenings when you’re looking to serve your family something quick and easy — but still as scrumptious as you’d make yourself — Holiday Market Select has plenty of mouthwatering options available in the grab-and-go case.

Then, simply reheat in your own kitchen, assemble the kids around the table, and enjoy. “No dishes to clean up and no tip,” says Violante.

More convenient options for shopping

Both Holiday Market locations offer several options for pickup and delivery to make family dinnertime a stress-free experience. A rise in online shopping and grocery delivery due to the pandemic has given Holiday Market an opportunity to help customers explore the stores in new ways.

You can order all your family’s grocery needs online — from produce to cheeses, meats and dairy, to packaged foods and bakery items — to be delivered through a partnership with Instacart.

At Holiday Market in Royal Oak, you can order groceries and have them delivered through Instacart, or you can order online and your groceries will be waiting for you to pick up in the store.

At both Holiday Market locations, you can order freshly prepared menu items online for pickup or delivery through Holiday Market Carryout. Menu items will vary between Holiday Market and Holiday Market Select. You’ll find it all on a single convenient app.

Welcome to your neighborhood spot

From your very first visit to Holiday Market Select, you’ll be warmly welcomed and it won’t be long before Holiday Market Select becomes your favorite neighborhood store.

Holiday Market Select was intentionally designed to be a welcoming neighborhood spot, similar to the very first Holiday Market in 1954. “The vision my dad had for his grocery store was like the neighborhood community swimming pool — a place where you know everybody, where you can say hello and call each other by first name,” Violante says.

When the opportunity to join the Birmingham neighborhood became available, Violante says he was excited to move in and then expand and remodel to offer just what the community needed in a small neighborhood store.

“This is the experience we are all longing for and some have never experienced it,” he says. “But we are hoping to slow the world down just a little bit and offer the appreciation of community through a community grocery experience.”
