We tell our children they can do anything they want if they put their minds to it – and, luckily, we can pave their path to future success with a Michigan Education Trust contract. But are we limiting them to stay in Michigan in the process? Absolutely not! Read on to discover how the MET 529 prepaid college savings program can help your children wherever their road may lead.
Across the country
If your child is eager to leave Michigan for higher education, a MET contract fits the bill. MET is used all over the country. In fact, in 2017, 375 colleges and universities outside of Michigan welcomed students with MET contracts – and 7 out of 8 Ivy League schools had students with MET contracts.
Around the world
If your child is a globe trotter in the making, MET is here for him or her, too. Colleges and universities in countries including Canada, France, Poland, Switzerland and Scotland counted students with MET contracts among their ranks last year.
In your own backyard
Of course, if your children want to stay close to home for college, MET offers peace of mind in knowing students are financially prepared to enter Michigan colleges and universities. All in all, 8,000 students at public four-year Michigan universities and over 1,500 attending public two-year Michigan colleges in 2017 had MET contracts to help alleviate the financial burden of tuition.
Portability is key
With MET, you can pre-pay undergraduate tuition for Michigan children at any of our state’s public universities, colleges and community colleges. However, there’s also a convenient option baked in for private and out-of-state universities! Students can direct MET funds to any eligible university they choose – opening the door to the future that much wider.
Types of contract options
The 2018 enrollment period is currently active until Sept. 30. MET lets you buy in-state college credits at today’s rates in these three convenient ways:
Lump sum plan
Buy one or more semesters (15 credit hours per semester) for any age
Monthly plans
Commit to buy one or more semester of college over four, seven, IO or 15 years.
Pay-as-you-go plan
Buy one credit hour for any age. After one, add $25 minimum at any time.
MET is a state-sponsored 529 prepaid tuition plan that lets parents, grandparents, businesses and others prepay undergrad tuition for Michigan children. It’s a “529” plan, which refers to a federal IRS code that indicates it’s exempt from state and federal taxes. Learn more at SETwithMET.com.
