Where to Rent Bicycles on Mackinac Island

Because cars aren’t allowed on Mackinac Island, biking is one of the easiest and most scenic ways to get around the island. Check out options for cruisers, mountain bikes, tandem bikes and wheels for kids.

On Mackinac Island, getting around the island is part of the experience. With no cars permitted on the island, biking is usually the preferred way of getting around, which the kids will love. Want to see the entire coast of Mackinac Island? It’s an 8-mile loop that’s easy to complete on two wheels.

Visitors are welcome to bring their own bikes on the ferry ride onto the island, but there are also more than 1,500 bikes to rent on the island, from tandem bicycles built for two, burleys for the kids and fat tire bikes. Thinking of bringing your ebike? Plan ahead because ebikes are not allowed on Mackinac Island.

A unique feature of Mackinac Island is its vehicle-free roads. The minute you get off the ferry, you’ll see hotel staff lined up on bicycles, ready to port your suitcases to your hotel. This is life on Mackinac Island!

In addition to free-roam exploring, bikers can also enjoy guided bike tours across the island. A number of hotels and experiences may include a private bike rental, but here are the spots around the island open to the public for their rental needs.

Options for bike rentals on Mackinac Island

Rentals are available to the public on a first-come, first-serve basis at the Island House Hotel, which is located directly across from the marina. Despite being located on the hotel grounds, rentals are open to the public.

In addition to bike rentals, the Bike Barn offers a full shop of bike gear from bike pedals and tires to baskets and bells to make sure your bike is properly prepared for your excursion on the island. Based on your location, you can also visit their sister company, Mackinac Wheels.

A sister company of the Mackinac Bike Barn, Mackinac Wheels also offers bike rentals, repairs and gear. They even sell bikes if you’re looking for a more permanent purchase. Pricing remains the same between the two locations. Guests interested in renting tandems and strollers will need to visit the Bike Barn.
