The Jewish Community Center has partnered with Tamarack Camps to provide summer campers a new camp experience at the JCC’s 225-acre West Bloomfield campus.
“We’re really excited about this partnership,” says Jenny Morgan, JCC Day Camps Director. “Tamarack is working collaboratively with the JCC Day Camps to help in all aspects of the camp experience. Being a Tamarack Camps Alumni, I am excited to be partnering with the Tamarack Camps to enhance our already amazing summer camp. Together with our many, many decades of experience, we are thrilled to experience another tremendous summer.”
The camps are held at the JCC located at Maple and Drake roads in West Bloomfield. Morgan says the property offers many opportunities because of the expansive array of amenities, including four pools, a high ropes course, 600-seat theater in the Berman Center for Performing Arts, a basketball court and a wooded Day Camp site, which can accommodate hundreds of campers and a variety of activities.
“We also want the community to know that our camp is open to everyone. In fact, our camp has a significant percentage of non-Jewish participants,” Morgan says. “Our camp values are informed by our Jewish roots, but these are really universal values of kindness, love of nature and cooperation. Our program is very much geared toward a family looking for an active, specialized and fun camp.”
The JCC Day Camps offer programming for kindergartners through 17 year olds. Camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and there are options for extended day care from 7 to 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 to 6 p.m.
“We offer a service that is pretty unique to our program. We provide free bus transportation through Oakland County from centralized locations. Those buses will run every day so parents, who are closer to the bus locations, don’t have to trek out to our facility,” Morgan continues, “the bus rides are supervised with our trained camp staff. This helps us transport our campers safely from across the area, including Bloomfield, Rochester, Southfield, Royal Oak, Troy and Commerce.”
Campers participate in activities like basketball, aquatics, archery, lacrosse, robotics, the ropes course and specialty camps like the art of sushi rolling, STEAM, organic farming, yoga and performing arts. The camps are run by the week and priced accordingly. Morgan says, “Some campers come for one week because they are looking for a specialized experience, while other campers come for the entire summer to see their friends and make new ones.
“We offer an overabundance of different camps and activities. JCC Day Camps also takes pride in the excellent camp staff we hire because of their enthusiasm and creativity. Children have so many opportunities to explore – things you can’t find all in one place anywhere else. That’s why people keep coming back to our camp,” Morgan says. “They love the environment, the family feel and it’s an exciting place to be for kids of all ages.”
