Thanksgiving Dinner Roll Recipes

It's not a holiday dinner without a basket of warm dinner rolls! Try one of these recipes for this year's big meal.

Light, fluffy and just begging to take a dip in gravy – Thanksgiving dinner isn’t the same without a big pile of dinner rolls. Most roll recipes include the same staple of ingredients – flour, yeast, eggs, salt and warm water. But that’s where each recipe takes off in a different direction: Some are loaded with butter, like Em’s famous dinner rolls, and others have a special technique to keep them moist, like Amish dinner roll’s addition of mashed potatoes. For something a bit fancy on your table, make a batch of herbed fantail rolls (fresh herbs in the dough). The best part about dinner rolls is making extras so you can put together turkey sandwiches on day two with all of your leftovers.

Classic Dinner Rolls

Do you want moist, yeasty rolls in less than an hour? Then follow the directions for these classic dinner rolls from The Chunky Chef. Knead the dough into a large ball and then break apart into pieces. Let the balls rise for 10 minutes (that’s it!) and then bake.

Em’s Famous Dinner Rolls

Everybody has that closely guarded family roll recipe. And if you still haven’t convinced your Aunt Ida to give you her version, try this one: Em’s famous dinner rolls from Is This Really My Life. The buttery rich dough can be shaped into crescents or other shapes.

Parker House Rolls

For a big pan of rolls that will feed a crowd, try this Parker house rolls recipe from The Food Network’s Bobby Flay. Warm milk in a saucepan, stir in sugar and butter. Then, add in yeast to activate it. Add several heaping cups of flour and knead away! Let the dough ball sit until it has doubled in size. Roll into balls and place in pan to rise again. Bake.

Amish Dinner Rolls

These rolls are the kind of melt-in-your-mouth, dense dinner rolls that make everyone forget there’s even turkey on the table. To make these tender rolls, you’ll need to mix mashed potatoes into the dough. This recipe for Amish dinner rolls from King Arthur Flour makes about 24 rolls.

Herbed Fantail Rolls

Break out the rolling pin for these herbed fantail rolls from thekitchn. The secret to these moist, yet crisp rolls are the additions of yogurt and oil olive. And for a dash of color and flavor – fresh, chopped chives are kneaded right into the dough.

Overnight Rolls

Sneak some whole grains into your kiddos Thanksgiving feast with this overnight roll recipe from Whole and Heavenly Oven. The recipe is made with white whole-wheat flour that you knead along with the other ingredients and form into a ball. Let the dough sit in an airtight container overnight and then form into balls the next day before letting them bake up to soft, pillowy perfection.
