Savory Chex Scramble Recipe

In honor of the holiday season, we here at Metro Parent wanted to share some of our favorite family recipes with you. We served up the details on our marvelous mini quiches, crazy good corn chowder, sinful French silk pie and perfect holiday sugar cookies in the November issue. Here, Metro Parent’s contributing writer Rebecca Thomas gives the story behind her husband’s fave treat – plus the recipe for making it for your family this year.

The story

This is my husband’s favorite holiday treat. For many years, his grandma has made this around Christmas time and gives him one can of it. He doesn’t share it with anyone, including his wife or daughters. This is a family recipe, and we all have a copy in our recipe box. We have made it ourselves and it’s amazing – but it seems special when it comes from his grandma.

Ingredients

  • 1 box Corn Chex
  • 1 box Rice Chex
  • 1 box Cheerios
  • 2 pounds Spanish peanuts (2 small cans)
  • 1 bag Pretzel Stix
  • 1/2 bottle Wesson oil (approximately 1 1/2 cup)
  • Worcestershire sauce (approximately 2 Tbsp.)
  • Garlic powder (approximately 3 Tbsp.)

Directions

  1. Mix Corn Chex, Rice Chex, Cheerios, Spanish peanuts and Pretzel Stix in a very large roaster (roaster oven is best).
  2. Use oil, Worcestershire sauce and garlic powder to taste.
  3. Bake at 225 degrees for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
