Bug Quest at the Michigan Science Center in Detroit

The Michigan Science Center presents its newest exhibit, which will be open May 14-Aug. 14, 2016. Here's what families can expect to see!

Do your kids love searching for bugs in the backyard? Is your home filled with books about spiders, ants and beetles? Does Disney’s A Bug’s Life have a permanent place in your DVD rotation?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, there’s a good chance you and your kids will want to check out the newest temporary exhibit at the Michigan Science Center in Detroit.

Bug Quest opens May 14, 2016 and will be available for little insect-lovers to explore throughout most of the summer, ending on Aug. 14, 2016.

The exhibit features a “choose-your-own-adventure” style with larger-than-life bug models and even live insects on display.

A traveling component of the exhibition called BUGS: Outside the Box includes enlarged insect sculptures, like a 10-foot-tall long-arm beetle and a butterfly with a five-foot wingspan. Another traveling exhibit featured in Bug Quest is Dr. Entomo’s Palace of Exotic Wonders, where living insects and arthropods are on display in a carnival-like atmosphere.

Other activities will be planned by MiSci’s education team to help bring lessons about bugs to life for guests of all ages.

Interested in catching a show in the Chrysler IMAX Dome Theatre during your visit? Make it a fully bug-filled outing and catch a showing of Bugs! A Rainforest Adventure on the five-story-high screen (fees apply).

Bug Quest admission is $20/adults, $17/12 and under, free/under 2.

The Michigan Science Center is located at 5020 John R St. in Detroit. Museum hours are as follows:

  • Monday-Tuesday: closed
  • Wednesday-Friday: 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
