Kids Can Make a Mess at Splatter Art Studio

The unique painting experience is perfect for messy play dates, group outings or even date night!

Michigan’s first immersive action painting studio is open in Ferndale! Splatter offers unique art experiences for creative families of all ages and artistic abilities.

The art studio encourages messy, wild expression using paint blasters, splatter sticks and paint brushes. Choose from more than 25 paint colors (or mix them to create your own custom shade!) then spray, splatter or spin them onto your canvas to create a unique masterpiece.

Quick details about Splatter in Ferndale

  • Address: 1956 Hilton Road, Ferndale
  • Hours: noon-7 p.m. Thursday; noon-9 p.m. Friday-Saturday; noon-7 p.m. Sunday. Open Monday-Wednesday by appointment only.
  • Cost: $55-$75

Splatter offers two immersive art experiences to choose from — Splatter Masterpiece and Pour + Spin

Create a Splatter Masterpiece by using the provided tools to drip, fling or shoot paint onto your 16×20-inch canvas. Add on a second canvas to create a custom set of pieces, or upgrade to a larger canvas for even more creative fun.

The Pour + Spin experience uses an automatic spinning table to “spin out” your paint. The result is a one-of-a-kind, tie dye inspired work of art.

Mop painting, fluid paint pouring and pendulum painting experiences will be available soon! Keep up with Splatter on social media to learn when these exciting experiences will become available.

Tips for visiting Splatter with kids

Before booking your family’s Splatter experience, read over these tips for visiting the studio with kids.

  • Grown ups will put on protective suits, shoe covers and caps before they get their hands dirty. Children will wear a poncho. This will help reduce paint spills on clothing, but may not prevent them completely. Be sure to wear clothing that you don’t mind getting messy or spilling paint on.
  • Children under 13 years old require the supervision of an adult 18 years or older.
  • All art experiences are one hour. Allow an extra 5-10 minutes for set up and demonstration.
  • Reservations are required, so be sure to book online ahead of time. Walk-ins will not be accepted.
  • Plan on leaving your masterpieces at Splatter for 2-5 days while they dry completely. To-go boxes are available for the 16×20-inch canvases, but Splatter is not responsible if your artwork is damaged in transit.
