Fun Things to Do with Metro Detroit Kids This Weekend

Looking for some family fun? Check out our list of events and other things to do this weekend.

Fall fun is just getting started in metro Detroit and there are so many kid-friendly events going on this weekend. 

One of my favorite places to check out in the fall is Yates Cider Mill. They have some of the best, fresh cider and donuts you’ll ever have and you can walk along the trails. 

Some other great events going on this weekend are Canterbury Village Oktoberfest, Metro Boat Show and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Live in Concert. Also, enjoy the nice weather this weekend and eat at these kid-friendly patios

Weekend events in Macomb County (Sept. 13-15)

Enjoy a Sunday Train Ride in Clinton Township or check out the Metro Boat Show in Harrison Township all weekend long. Find more weekend events in Macomb County on our calendar.   

Metro Boat Show at Lake St. Clair Metropark

Sept. 12-15, 2024

See boats, hear live music, enjoy the kids zone, play lawn games and more.

Big Rig Day at Brandenburg Park

Sept. 14, 2024 

  • Address: 50050 Jefferson Ave., New Baltimore
  • Cost: Free

This event kicks off with a landing of the Medstar Helicopter at the park. Then, see big rigs on display such as fire trucks, tractors, tow trucks and more. 

Heritage Day at Chesterfield Historical Village

Sept. 14, 2024

  • Address: 47275 Sugarbush Road, Chesterfield Township
  • Cost: $1/person, $2/family

Go back in time at Heritage Day. Enjoy candle making, rope making, games, hands-on activities, photos, corn grinding, a scavenger hunt and more. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. 

Sunday Train Rides at Joy Park

Sept. 15, 2024

  • Address: 24001 Henry B Joy Blvd., Clinton Township
  • Cost: $7/ages 13-plus, $4/ages 4-12, free/ages 3 and under

Families can take a 35-45 minute-long train ride beginning at Joy Park. Advanced tickets are required.

Cranbrook on the Green: Artist Designed Miniature Golf at the Cranbrook Art Museum

Sept. 11-15, 2024

Test your skills on the ten holes at this mini golf course at Cranbrook Art Museum. It is inspired by the art and design of Cranbrook. Tickets to the Green include admission to the Art Museum’s galleries. 

Canterbury Village Oktoberfest

Sept. 14-15, 2024

  • Address: 2325 Joslyn Ct., Lake Orion
  • Cost: $5/cash, $6/card; free/parking

 This kid-friendly Oktoberfest features themed food, beer, contests, live music, games and more. The first 150 people will receive a free beer mug to take home.

Michigan Renaissance Festival

Sept. 14-15, 2024

  • Cost: $17-$25.95/adults, $10-$15.95/ages 5-12, free/4 and under

Step back to the 16th century for theater shows, jousting tournaments, comedy “real” mythological creatures, music, games and more. This weekend’s theme is Shamrocks & Shenanigans.  

Reels by the Riverside at Civic Center Park

Watch Elemental (PG) on Sept. 14. Bring snacks and a blanket to the park.  

Tea with the Fairies at Boston Tea Room

Sept. 15, 2024

  • Address: 1220 Woodward Heights, Ferndale
  • Cost: $45/child, free/adults accompanying child

This family-friendly event features a scavenger hunt, a magical story time, craft stations, immersive fairytale décor, a photo area, sweet treats and a tea service. For ages 6-12. Registration required.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Live in Concert at the Fisher Theatre

See screening of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse while listening to a soundtrack that blends hip-hop with symphonic orchestral music. There will be a skilled scratch DJ on turntables, a full orchestra and percussion and electronic instrumentalists. 

Story Festival at Ford House

Sept. 14, 2024

  •     Cost: $7-$10/adult, $5-$7/ages 4-12, free/ages 3 and under

Kids ages 7 and under can listen to stories and children’s music at this Story Festival. 

Campus Kids Day at Campus Martius Park

“Lil Pumpkin Patch” is the theme of this Campus Kids Day. It features pumpkin decorating, make and take projects, lawn games, a fall craft, corn patch inflatables and more.

Dinosaur Discoveries: Ancient Fossils, New Ideas at University of Michigan Museum of Natural History

This exhibit offers two life-size models of Protoceratops, a full-size cast skeleton leg of a Tyrannosaurus rex, a life-size three-horned Triceratops skull and more.

Raptor Migration at Eddy Discovery Center

  •     Cost: $2/person, $5/family (with State Recreation Passport)

See several raptors including an eagle, a turkey vulture and hawks, provided by Francie Krawcke of Michigan Avian Experience. You’ll learn how and why they migrate. Advanced registration required.
