In the May-October months, farmers markets in metro Detroit open shop for the season. These locally grown (and run) markets let parents and kids eat healthy and shop close to home while spending quality family time together, too.
Browsing the farmers market can be much richer of an experience than hitting the grocery store. Not only do kids learn valuable lessons about buying local and eating healthier, they also get to interact with the growers themselves and discover a few awesome lessons at a variety of special events and activities.
When it comes to farmers markets in metro Detroit and Ann Arbor, families are in luck. There’s something for everyone at these Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne county spots.

Dodge Park Farmers Market

This small summer market brings its array of local fruits, vegetables and baked goods to a festive outdoor setting. There will be a Craft & Flea Market on May 19, June 9, June 23, July 14, July 28, Aug. 11 and Aug. 25. There will also be live music on select Sundays and other events such as Touch a Truck Day on June 9 and free Zumba and Yoga classes. Also, the weekly food truck will be House of Barbecue.
Downtown Rochester Farmers Market

Celebrating its 25th season, more than 30 vendors set up shop every Saturday to provide folks with farm-fresh produce, specialty goods and flowers. Use their produce guide and their parking guide to plan ahead. Dogs are welcome at the market but must be leashed and picked up after. Michigan EBT and Double Up Food Bucks are accepted. Museum at the Market will be there May 11, June 8, July 13 and Aug. 10.
Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market
