Virtual Races to Add To Your Summer Running Routine

Get your fill of running fun at one of these virtual races put on by both local and national groups.

Was one of your New Year’s resolutions or plans for 2021 to run a 5K or marathon? It’s not too late to hit that goal. With its longer days, summer is a great time to pick up running and a virtual run can help you accomplish any movement goal you have, even if you compete on your treadmill. Sign up for one of these to raise money for charity and ramp up your workout.

Local Races

Angel’s Place Race

  • Cost: $30-$40
  • Swag: Finisher’s medal and T-shirt
  • Complete by: May 15, 2021

Run in your favorite park or neighborhood and support Angels’ Place, which provides services and support for people with disabilities.

Avondale Band on the Run Virtual 5K

  • Cost: $25
  • Swag: Finisher’s medal and T-shirt
  • Complete by: June 4-6, 2021

Support the students at Avondale Middle School in Rochester Hills with a virtual 5K around your community.

OPC Run/Walk for Meals on Wheels

  • Cost: $25-$30
  • Swag: T-shirt
  • Complete by: In-person June 5, 2021; virtually June 30, 2021

This 15th annual will run both in-person and virtually in 2021. Join in to support Rochester’s Meals on Wheels program.

Run for Beer: Michigan Brewery Running Series

  • Cost: $20-$50
  • Swag: Collectible pint glass and a free beer, T-shirt option available
  • Complete by: June 18, 2021

Michigan’s breweries are hosting in-person 5K runs that end with free beer. Choose from this race to support Granite City in Troy or others throughout the summer for Rochester Mills Brewery, Dragonmead, Brown Iron Brewhouse and more.

Clawson’s Freedom Run 5K

  • Cost: $15-$20
  • Swag: T-shirt option available; Awards for the top three men and women finishers
  • Complete by: June 27, 2021

Celebrate the Fourth of July at this annual race, which is in-person with entry limits this year. Races are divided by age group so large groups of runners don’t congregate. Kids can opt for a one-mile fun run.

National Races

Time to Bloom – Run Michigan Cheap

  • Cost: $20

Choose from a 5K, 10K or half-marathon all for the same price. Participate from the location of your choice.

Be Kind to Your Mind

May is Mental Health Month and Mental Health America is hosting this race to support those seeking to achieve mental wellness. Offers one-mile, 5K, 10K, half-marathon or marathon runs.

Geek Pride Day

Celebrate your inner geek at this event with a one-mile, 5K, 10K, half-marathon or marathon run.

Memorial Day Run

  • Cost: $25

This third-annual event honors our fallen veterans. Choose from one-mile, 5K, 10K, half-marathon or marathon options.

Father’s Day Race

  • Cost: $27
