If Halloween is your family’s most highly-anticipated holiday, you’re not alone. Between trick-or-treating, trunk-or-treating, classroom parties and more, there’s fun to be had all throughout the month of October.
Even as Halloween trends change over time, there’s no disputing the fun this season brings for kids of all ages – and mom and dad, too.
With that in mind, Redbox.com (yes, this company and its famous video-rental kiosks are still around) decided to take a survey of more than 1,000 of its most engaged customers between August and September 2019 to find out just where they stand on some key Halloween topics. Here’s a look at what those customers had to say, according to a recent press release from Redbox.
Favorite scary movie
Who doesn’t love a scary movie? Well, lots of people (and we don’t just mean kids). In fact, for many Halloween enthusiasts, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is about as good as it gets. But for those who love horror flicks, Halloween season is the perfect excuse to pull out those old DVDs or stream something spooky on Netflix.
Which movies made the cut on Redbox’s survey of 1,098 customers? The winners are …
- The Shining
- A Quiet Place
- Halloween
- The Exorcist
- Nightmare on Elm Street
Favorite family Halloween movie
Speaking of that Charlie Brown classic, this question specifically addresses which Halloween-time films are most favored among families. One thing they all have in common? They’re each more than 20 years old.
Here’s to hoping we’ll get some new family-friendly Halloween flicks to add to our faves list in the near future!
- Hocus Pocus
- Beetlejuice
- It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
- The Nightmare Before Christmas
- Ghostbusters
Favorite Halloween candy
Does “full-size candy bar” count? We’re thinking not – but we all know that’s the dream of pretty much any kid (and candy-bag-raiding mom or dad) each Halloween night. That said, this survey question had a clear winner: Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups got more than 25 percent of votes.
Here’s the full list – but FYI, we’re all scratching our heads at how No. 3 made the list over Twix and Crunch bars.
- Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
- Snickers
- Candy Corn
- Peanut M&M’s
- Almond Joy
Favorite Halloween tradition
Redbox reports that trick-or-treating and handing out candy topped survey respondents’ top Halloween traditions. You’ll find the rest of the responses below, but just one question on our end: Where’s trunk-or-treating on this list?!
- Going trick or treating
- Handing out candy
- Watching a scary movie
- Carving pumpkins
- Putting up Halloween decorations
