African World Festival Detroit at The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History

The 37th annual African World Festival, Aug. 16-18, 2019, will feature richly cultural fun for the entire family.

Bask, revel and educate the family in African world culture Aug. 16-18, 2019, when metro Detroiters return to The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History Detroit for the 37th annual African World Festival featuring a diaspora of African performers, artists, vendors and ethnic dishes to enjoy.

At one of the big annual Charles H. Wright Museum events, feel the beat and move your feet to artists’ music heard around the world.

A fashion show is also in store on the main stage. Guests can get cultured in the latest trendy clothing, natural hairstyles and up-and-coming designers.

Poets will enrapture audiences during the festival with passionate performances and stories, and everyone can perform by putting on their dancing shoes.

Dance until you drop and your stomach rumbles, because once you get a whiff of what local African, Caribbean and African-American restaurants featured at the event are cooking up, you’ll salivate until you get a bite!

Families are invited to hang at the Watoto (Children’s) Village, which will provide arts, crafts and games for children all weekend. Vendors and merchandise booths offering art, jewelry, clothing and more will also be featured at the event.

The festival is free and open to the public. Hours are 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
