Ann Arbor Stamp Show at Washtenaw Community College

Take a break from the costumes and the sugar buzz this Halloween weekend for the Ann Arbor Stamp Show, Oct. 31-Nov. 1, 2015, at Washtenaw Community College’s Morris Lawrence Building. Whether you’re a postage aficionado or new to the hobby, this showcase, hosted by the Ann Arbor Stamp Club, has it all.

Don’t underestimate the significance of stamps! Each mini library has a story to tell. Many historic and foreign stamps can be found at the youth booth and, for much higher prices, for sale by 28 dealers from 10 different states at their respective tables. Distributors sell stamps and covers that originated from places around the world. More than seven exhibits showcase stamps from Australia, the U.S., Canada, France from the World War II era, and many more with topical themes – including animals, sports, fishing, nature, patriotic and more.

Youngsters new to collecting can stop by the youth booth, where they can learn how to get access to particular postage, the artistic process of making a stamp, how to tastefully exhibit their collection, how to store and keep the paper squares, how to gain a respectable online presence and gain insight on internship opportunities. They can even get their hands on donated stationary, courtesy of visiting dealers who’ve turned their stamp-collecting hobbies into careers.

Visit the cachet makers’ bourse Saturday to watch designers make cachets for envelopes.

Even if you’re not interested in taking your stamps to the major leagues, the show is fun for families looking for an educational spin on these small, adhesive postage stamps. Whether you discuss foreign places or currencies, they introduce enthusiasts to countless nuggets of history.

Parking and admission are free. The show’s hours are as follows:

  • Saturday, Oct. 31: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Sunday, Nov. 1: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
