Arab International Festival in Dearborn

Fourteen blocks. One big festival! That's what's in store for families as the 17th annual Arab International Festival returns to the streets of Dearborn June 15-17, 2012.

Warren Avenue, from Schaefer Road to Wyoming Avenue, will transform into a festival scene for three days. Dearborn is a hub for the Arab American community in metro Detroit and features a variety of Middle Eastern businesses – from restaurants to salons to clothing stores.

An estimated 300,000 people from the United States and Canada are expected to attend this annual event, which is one of the largest street festivals in the United States. Why not bring the kids and join the fun?

Enter the Arabic Idol contest – or sit in the audience as local talent competes for the title. Shop the bazaar, where Middle Eastern artisans showcase their crafts and clothing for purchase. Hungry? Grab some authentic Middle Eastern cuisine; there's plenty here!

These are just a few highlights of this cultural celebration, which also offers loads of fun for the little ones. Carnival rides and games, along with a children's tent for arts and crafts and face painting, will keep them well entertained.

Familiarize yourself with the area and everything it has to offer by talking with local business owners, too – who will have information booths set up at the event, as well.

The cultural fun is free and takes place at the following times:

  • Friday: 4-10 p.m.
  • Saturday: 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
  • Sunday: 11 a.m.-8 p.m.
