Sure, Beyoncé and Eminem played Coachella – California’s big outdoor music event – last month. But we think the star of the Electronic Baby Festival – an exclusive, one-time-only event in metro Detroit – really steals the show.
Inspired by the iconic sunny fest, mom Anam Taufiq jumped on the theme for daughter Amira’s first birthday. “Many stores start carrying ‘bohemian attire’ around this time,” she says, making it a breeze for guests to show up festival-ready. “I found the flower crowns and bracelets for the kids at Claire’s.”
In addition to official #AmirasBirthdayFestival wristbands, attendees enjoyed temporary tattoos, face painting and grub like street tacos, chicken sliders, shoestring fries and lemonade.
“Food was provided on food boat trays that you find at carnivals,” Taufiq says, and served on a colorful kid-height table flanked by pretty pillows that doubled as party favors (sidewalk chalk, Frisbees and beach balls for the boys).
Dessert included a flower-festooned Funfetti cake, Popsicles and deep-fried Oreos.
Taufiq’s son Miraj, 3, had a play tent that doubled as a gift area. And, of course, the playlist was filled with electronic jams by Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Tiësto, Zedd and DJ Snake. “Most of these songs are appropriate for all ages because they do not have a lot of lyrics, just lots of fun upbeat music – so it was perfect!”
