Lunar New Year Celebrations in Metro Detroit and Ann Arbor

Looking to introduce your kids to this annual cultural event? This year, celebrate on Jan. 22, 2023, with local events planned around it.

Happy New Year … again! About a month after the standard American New Year fun kicks off Jan. 1, the Lunar New Year celebrations in metro Detroit and Ann Arbor begin.

And, as you might know, there’s also a critter to represent the new year, thanks to the Chinese 12-year animal zodiac. 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit!

See Xiao Dong Wei perform at Hawk Black Box Theatre. The day’s events will also include a family-friendly Lunar New Year celebration. Beer and wine will be available to purchase for 21 years and up.

CELEBRATE LUNAR NEW YEAR

Enjoy a fun-filled Lunar New Year event that features Asian traditions from the past and present. There will be live performances, a fashion show, food sampling, a raffle, twisted rabbit balloons and more. No registration required.
