Create a Kid-Friendly Writing Station

A pretzel eraser, mini office kit and more cool office accessories for your child's writing space.

We’re about halfway through National Letter Writing Month. Has your family gotten in on the notecard action yet? If not, don’t worry. There’s still plenty of time for your children to sit down and write a thoughtful note to a family member or friend. When it’s time to sit down to write, do they have their own special place to do so? If they don’t, I’ve pulled a few of my must-have supplies for any crafter-in-training’s junior desk.

If you’ve spent any time in the office supply section at big retailers, you’ve most likely seen a colorful section dedicated to Yoobi products. Yoobi is a family-friendly company that donates one product to a classroom for every product purchased. That means the pack of freshly sharpened pencils isn’t just going into your child’s pencil pouch – it’s going into the pencil pouch of a classroom that could really use them. Yoobi is big on color. Like, REALLY big on color! Collections are offered by bright shades that appeal to every kid out there, from hot pink to lime green. In addition to their office supplies they also have an entire selection of art necessities, too. Are the products just for kids? Not at all. For any grown-up who’d prefer a bright blue stapler over a plain black one, Yoobi is for them.

If you’re looking to set up a writing area for your children, or the entire family, here are my top picks to get you started.

Pretzel Erasers

A pretzel eraser?! This clever eraser is pretzel in name only! Erasers are always important to have nearby, especially when they’re designed in a fun shape.

Solid Pen Cup and Pencil Sharpener

Keep pencils, pens and types of markers neat and tidy by placing them in a pen cup like this one. The Yoobi pen cup is extra thick, so it can hold many, many writing accessories. And don’t forget a pencil sharpener! With lots of writing comes the need for a very sharp pencil.

Composition Book

I love to keep notebooks stashed all over for myself, and the same is true for when my nephews visit. Having lots of paper on hand is perfect for when drawing or writing inspiration strikes. During National Letter Writing Month, have your child practice their penmanship or jot down lists of friends to send notes to.

Mini Office Kit

I love that this kit has everything you might need while at your writing desk: scissors, tape dispenser, stapler and even a staple remover. Being mini and cute doesn’t hurt either.

Letter Tray Desk Set

Keep their writing space neat and tidy with a letter tray desk set. The two pieces can be stacked together to maximize space. Keep it stocked with all of their supplies so that they’re ready to write whenever the moment strikes.
