Detroit Kennel Club Dog Shows at Cobo Center

Calling all dog lovers! The Detroit Kennel Club Dog Shows return to Cobo Center March 3-4, 2012, bringing canine-themed fun for the whole family.

Get up close and personal with over 2,000 dogs from the 167 different breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club – just be sure to ask before petting or taking photos! They'll be most-rested and eager to be petted early in the morning (so get there sooner than later, if you can!), with the busiest hours falling just after lunch. The dogs' handlers and breeders will be on hand to answer questions about your favorite breeds, too.

Your own Fido will have to stay home, though; only competing dogs are allowed at the show. But you can buy him a special treat from one of the nearly 2,000 vendors selling doggie items, from treats to training gear.

Special events include border collies herding sheep and ducks, pet first aid demonstrations and "Meet the Breed" seminars (schedule of events is available at the Kennel Club's website; check out the Metro Parent listing to find it).

Dogs will be "benched" in designated locations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $15 for adults and $8 for kids, with separate admission for each day. Tickets can be purchased at Kroger stores or at the door.
