Handmade gift wrapping is sometimes just as fun to make as the handmade gift itself! Whether it’s stamping plain paper for one-of-a-kind wrapping paper or an embellished gift tag to top a bag, the little extra touches really make a difference to the recipient, no matter what their age is. This simple ruler-like tool has a perforated edge that when a sheet of paper is ripped along it creates a paper bag look.
The tool can make a variety of different sized bags and works great with wrapping paper, scrapbook paper sheets – you name it. For a handmade gift bag that your child can make or you can assist with, a piece of plain printer paper can be transformed into a charming gift bag that acts as a blank canvas for your child to personalize. To get started, trim your printer paper to one of the widths shown on the ruler. For this small bag, I sized my sheet down to an 8″ square. Line the paper along the size you’ve selected and start ripping the paper along the perforated edge. Stop when you get to the halfway point of the bag top.
Next, move the opposite side of the paper over to the width you’ve selected and continue ripping. You’ve now created the top of the bag.
Repeat the same process for the bottom of the bag. Leave yourself about 1/2″ at the bottom to grab and rip against the tool.
With your bag shape created, it’s time to fold it all together. Use the tool as a guide to fold in both sides of the bag as well as the bottom.
Once folded, use a glue stick or tape runner to apply adhesive to one of the bag flaps. Press into place. Repeat for the bag bottom and fold up.
Turn the bag over and get ready to decorate!
