Bring the Kids to Metro Detroit’s Best Farmers Markets

Stop by these farmers markets in metro Detroit to find fresh and delicious food for your fam.

In the May-October months, farmers markets in metro Detroit open shop for the season. These locally grown (and run) markets let parents and kids eat healthy and shop close to home while spending quality family time together, too.

Browsing the farmers market can be much richer of an experience than hitting the grocery store. Not only do kids learn valuable lessons about buying local and eating healthier, they also get to interact with the growers themselves and discover a few awesome lessons at a variety of special events and activities.

When it comes to farmers markets in metro Detroit and Ann Arbor, families are in luck. There’s something for everyone at these Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne county spots.

Farmers Markets in Macomb County

Dodge Park Farmers Market

June 6-Sept. 26, 2024 (No market July 4 or July 25)

Swing by this market to get fresh fruits, veggies, fresh meat, poultry, and indoor and outdoor florals. Plus, there are concerts and weekly food trucks. Special events include Pride Day on June 6, Juneteenth on June 13, Cool Car Rally on July 11, Park It Family Fun and Movie in the Park on Aug. 8, Pet Parade on Sept. 5, Market Fit on Sept. 12, Oktoberfest on Sept. 19 and Touch a Truck on Sept. 26. Bridge cards are welcome.

Mount Clemens Farmers Market

May 4-Nov. 23, 2024 

Shop items such as eggs, honey, maple syrup, herbs, bedding plants, hanging baskets, vegetable plants, baked goods, spinach and coffee.

New Baltimore Farmers Market

May-October 2024 

  • Address: on Washington Street, in between Main and Front streets, New Baltimore
  • Hours: 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sundays

Shelby Township Farmers Market

May 18-Oct. 19, 2024

This outdoor market features fruits, vegetables, honey, eggs, maple syrup, bread, baked goods and more. Also, be sure to check out the Harvest Holiday Market on Sunday, Nov. 3.

Birmingham Farmers Market

May 5-Oct. 27, 2024

This farmers market is celebrating its 22nd season. Shop local produce, dairy, meat, fresh foods, floral bouquets, garden flats, hanging baskets and more. Use their produce guide to plan ahead.

Clarkston Area Farmers Market

June 15-Oct. 12, 2024 

Find a variety of locally grown produce, Michigan-made products, grass-fed beef, fresh breads, artisan jewelry, natural body care products and more. There will also be live music.

Clawson Farmers Market

May 5-Nov. 4, 2024 

This small summer market brings its array of local fruits, vegetables and baked goods to a festive outdoor setting. There will be a Craft & Flea Market on May 19, June 9, June 23, July 14, July 28, Aug. 11 and Aug. 25. There will also be live music on select Sundays and other events such as Touch a Truck Day on June 9 and free Zumba and Yoga classes. Also, the weekly food truck will be House of Barbecue. 

Downtown Rochester Farmers Market

May 4-Oct. 26, 2024

  • Address: Corner of East Third and Water Streets, downtown Rochester
  • Hours: 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays

Celebrating its 25th season, more than 30 vendors set up shop every Saturday to provide folks with farm-fresh produce, specialty goods and flowers. Use their produce guide and their parking guide to plan ahead. Dogs are welcome at the market but must be leashed and picked up after. Michigan EBT and Double Up Food Bucks are accepted. Museum at the Market will be there May 11, June 8, July 13 and Aug. 10.

Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market

May 11-Nov. 2, 2024

Check out the list of vendors at the farmers market. This marketplace boasts a large variety of locally grown flowers and even jams, jellies, eggs, spices, sauces, seasonal fruits and veggies, fresh coffee and unique artisan crafts. Some of the events include Flower Day on May 11, Kids POP! Club on June 8, Strawberry Shortcake Day on June 22, All-American Market on July 6, Market of the Harvest Moon on Sept. 21 and much more. 

Milford Farmers Market

May 9-Oct. 10, 2024 (No market on July 4 or Aug. 8) 

  • Address: Liberty Street between S. Main and Union Street, Milford
  • Hours: 3-7 p.m. Thursdays

You’ll find foods and creations by Michigan farmers and artisans here. Visit throughout the summer for live entertainment, family fun and special events. 

Northville Farmers Market

May 2-Oct. 31, 2024 (No market on July 4)

Find crafters, homemade Michigan products like soaps, lotions and honey. Pick up your fresh produce, and be sure to check out the Chefs at the Market, who visit one Thursday a month and share a recipe they made with items from the market’s booths. There will also be weekly musicians. 

Oakland County Farmers Market

May 2-the end of December 2024

Shop for fresh produce, flowers and handmade goods at both indoor and outdoor stalls. Use their Produce Availability Guide to plan ahead.

Royal Oak Farmers Market

May 11, 2024-Feb. 1, 2025

Find a wide variety of fresh, locally produced fruits and veggies, as well as baked goods, eggs, plants and other goods. Be sure to catch the amazing flea market, too, packed with collectibles and antiques on Sundays.

South Lyon Farmers Market

May 4-October 2024

This market brings together the community and supports local farmers and artisans. Participating vendors offer locally grown, baked and crafted products. Food trucks will be there on select days.

Ann Arbor Farmers Market

May-December 2024 

A well-loved gem, this 105-year open-air market — located in the bustling heart of the historic Kerrytown district — offers a diverse mix of 125 vendors from Michigan.

Chelsea Farmers Market

May-October 2024

Chelsea Farmers Market brings high-quality food and artisan products to the community. Look for a variety of items for sale, including fresh produce, meat, baked goods, honey, maple syrup, eggs, prepared food and artisan crafts. 

Dexter Farmers Market

May-October 2024 for Saturday Market; June-September for Tuesday Market

This Washtenaw County spot offers two market times per week. Find a cornucopia of plants, veggies, fruit, organic herbs, jewelry, soap and more. Plus watch for kids’ craft activities. Accepts Bridge or PEBT cards and Project Fresh coupons.

Dixboro Farmers Market

Opens May 24, 2024 (Market closed on July 5)

The market has The Cheese People of Grand Rapids selling artisan hard and soft cheeses, vegetables and flowers from Dragonwood Farm, local honey from Heart of the Hive and much more. There will be live music every Friday.

Ypsilanti Farmers Market

May-October 2024  

This market sells plenty of produce, seedlings, baked goods, crafts and more. The Saturday market has 30 vendors selling produce, meat, cheese and baked goods. EBT is accepted.

Manchester Farmers Market

May 16-Oct. 17, 2024

Snag fruits and vegetables, plants, honey, maple syrup, breads, baked goods and items from local artisans and crafters. 

Pittsfield Township Farmers Market

Opens May 30, 2024

Lots of specialty foods and farm-fresh produce here. Find everything from flowers, eggs and pasture-raised meat to baked goods — including gluten-free, vegan and sugar-free — and even granola, jams, honey, sauces and much more.

Saline Farmers Market

May-mid November 

  • Address: South Ann Arbor Street, downtown Saline
  • Hours: 8 a.m.-noon Saturdays

When it comes to farmers markets in southeast Michigan, this Detroit landmark, which dates back to 1891, is an icon, offering more than 250 produce and plant vendors within its six blocks. Stroll Eastern Market’s open-air stalls for a plethora of farm-fresh goodies, including produce, baked goods and more.

Hope Village Farmers Market

Plymouth Community Farmers Market

May 11-Oct. 26, 2024

Fresh produce, flowers, baked goods, popcorn, jams and jellies, honey, salsa and barbecue sauce are just a few of the many offerings at one of the longtime farmers markets in southeast Michigan. Plus it’s just a short stroll from the popular Kellogg Park.

Redford Township Market at the Marquee

June 9-Oct. 13, 2024

This outdoor market is sheltered and has everything from locally grown produce, plants and flowers to baked goods, art and specialty foods.

Westland Farmers Market

May 23-Oct. 10, 2024 

Set in a farmers market building, this locale teems with fresh, healthy fare from local growers and unique items from artisans. Stop by to pick up some fresh or local produce. There will also be live entertainment weekly.

Wyandotte Farmers Market

June-October 2024

  • Address: Near City Hall in the Vintage Market Parking Lot, Wyandotte
  • Hours: 2-7 p.m. Thursdays
