It’s the first week of October. You know what that means: Halloween is just weeks away! How’s the costume planning coming along so far? Do your children pick their costumes out months in advance or change their minds until they hit the door for trick-or-treating? Crafters of all ages tend to be in agreement that Halloween is a favorite holiday when it comes to crafting. When else are googly eyes expected on, well, everything?
If your craft supply box is in need of a Halloween-approved makeover, here are some of my favorite must-have supplies this season. What are some of yours?
1. Jack-O’-Lantern Decorative Boxes
These papier-mache pumpkins separate in two so a piece of candy – or something more ghastly! – can be hidden inside. Glitter and paint are perfect for these small treat holders; the three-pack offering is great for when several folks want to craft the same thing at once.
2. Kid Made Modern Bat Crayons
Todd Oldham does it again with his always-fun Kid Made Modern line, this time offering up several Halloween options – like these bat crayons. You can see his whole Halloween line on YouTube.
3. Pumpkin Buttons
These happy jacks can make a great addition to a fall sweater, silly necklace or as part of a bigger costume plan. The larger bag is a great bargain, too.
4. Paper Straws
Paper straws are a hit with crafters right now. Besides being a fun addition to your drink, they’re great for crafting with.
5. Autumn Felt Stickers
Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft always has a good go-to section for these felt stickers, no matter the holiday. Halloween, and the autumn season, is no different. These stickers work great on cards and make an appliqued look when added. They also tend to be on sale frequently, making them affordable, too.
6. Monster Head Cookie Cutter
Believe it or not, I have a big collection of cookie cutters I keep for my crafting, not baking, purposes. Cookie cutters are great templates, and these comfort cutters from Wilton are great for smaller hands. Use to design shapes or even an embroidery pattern.
7. Plastic Laboratory Test Tubes
These are so much fun to craft with! Fill them up with your favorite candies or see what kind of gross mixes you can add to the inside.
8. Fancy Halloween Embellishments
These spider stickers from Martha Stewart are a great addition to garland you and your crafters make this month. Check out Martha’s complete line of embellishments, from grumpy pumpkins to zombie cupcakes.
