This February we’ve found tons of family-friendly fun, including Black History Month events and Valentine’s Day events along with some winter fun like indoor and outdoor ice skating rinks and sledding hills. Black History Mysteries at Southfield Public Library

Feb. 1-28, 2023

Families can visit the library each week in the month of February for a new mystery to solve. Turn in your clue sheet for a prize and be entered into the drawing to receive a year-long family membership to the Detroit Zoo.

Bowers Farm Winter Park 2023 at Bowers School Farm

Feb. 1-26, 2023 (Wednesdays-Sundays)

Celebrate winter through tubing, skating and concessions at Bowers Farm. There will be entertainment every Saturday.

Bloomfield Players Presents Seussical at the Performing Arts Center of Bloomfield Hills High School

Feb. 3-5, 10-12, 2023

The play features Dr. Seuss’ most beloved characters, such as the Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant and more.

Love is Lit: Valentine’s Day Circuits (Teen) at Royal Oak Public Library

Ages 18 months to 5 years can join for a morning of music, activities and fun in the Blackbox Theater. February’s theme is Bonbonaroo.

Valentine Sensory Play: Birth to 3 years at Royal Oak Public Library

Winter Wonderland Magic Show with Gordon the Magician at Gilham Recreation Center

See magician, Gordon Russ at his Winter Wonderland Magic Show at Gilham Recreation Center. He will be with his trusty sidekick, George the Raccoon. Don’t forget to make and bring a “PICK ME” sign to the show.

Galentine’s Day at Royal Oak Public Library

Teens can enjoy a non-gendered celebration of platonic love and friendship in the Youth Activity Room. There will be snacks, crafts and more.

Nature Makerspace – FOR KIDS! at Farmington Hills Nature Center

Ages 5-12 can design, create and make using nature as the inspiration to solve real-world challenges. February’s theme is circuits. No registration necessary.

Winter Blast in Downtown Royal Oak

Feb. 17-19, 2023

  • Address: Downtown Royal Oak area
  • Cost: Free

Enjoy free skating, live music, ice sculptures, a snow slide, zip line, food trucks and more. The family zone will consist of arts and crafts and live entertainment for kids.

Black History Month Celebration at Pontiac Public Library

Feb. 18, 2023

Celebrate Black History Month with the library and hear from African American authors who will presents their books, vendors, speakers and more. Refreshments provided.

Ferndale Daddy Daughter Dance at Ferndale High School Commons Area

Feb. 18, 2023

This year’s dance will feature a special visit from a Wakanda Warrior, live DJ, finger food, treats, photos and more. Every girl will receive a goodie bag and a carnation. Pre-registration required.

Princess Day in the O’rena at Oakland University

Toddler Explorations: Valentine’s Day Theme at Northville District Library

SUE: The T. rex Experience at Cranbrook Institute of Science

Through April 30, 2023

  • Address: 39221 Woodward Ave., Bloomfield Hills
  • Cost: $10/non-member adults, $9/members, $8/non-member children ages 2-12 and seniors, free/enhanced members and children under 2. (Non-members must pay general admission, too)

This traveling exhibit comes from the Field Museum in Chicago and features an exact cast of SUE’s skeleton, measuring in at 40 feet from snout to tail and 13 feet tall at the hip.
