Let your kids stretch their creative wings at the annual Festival of the Arts free family fun day in Farmington Hills on Saturday, May 3, 2014. This year's theme, "Grow with the Arts," sets the stage for lots of art discovery in a fun, upbeat environment – all at no charge!
The festivities, which happen at the Costick Center, include cultural displays by community organizations, live entertainment and activities for kids. Plus, find north of 200 pieces of art to peek at and, if something strikes you just right, buy for your house.
Demos and hands-on crafting for kids are definitely a highlight. Renowned sculptor Bernadette Zachara-Marcos will be on hand, along with artists skilled in quilting, pottery, painting, embroidery and more. As they show off their skills, these friendly creatives often get kids in on the action! In the spirit of the "growing" theme, children also get to design a seed packet to take home, where they can plant its contents.
Love free entertainment? There's plenty of that on tap, too, including everything from piano, French horn, trombone and clarinet instrumental performances to singing, acting, dancing and Polynesian dance.
The entire event runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 3. Remember, admission is free! To get directions to and basics on the 2014 Festival of the Arts free family fun day in Farmington Hills, visit the Metro Parent calendar listing.
