Hands-On Winter Games at Ann Arbor Hands On Museum

On your mark, get set – science! If you’re looking for fun for the kids during the holiday break, mark your calendar for Dec. 26-Jan. 6, 2011. That’s when the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum is rallying up its second annual Hands-On Holidays event, this time with a Winter Games theme.

To get in the cold-weather spirit, this children’s museum is going outside in. The days will be packed with fun activities you would expect to do outdoors, explains public programs manager Rebecca Shackelford. Don’t miss the igloo-building contest that uses AAHOM’s beloved big foam blocks. And pretend ice fishing is another “lure” – and a cool way for staff to chat to visitors about the state of matter and freezing, along with the water cycle – and why it snows.

“It will be great fun for all ages – from the 2-year-old to the 10-year old,” Shackelford says. “There will be something for everyone, and they’ll have a chance to learn something, too!”

Kicking off the Monday after Christmas, Hands-On Holidays: Winter Games runs 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Saturday, noon-4 p.m. Sunday, from Dec. 26 to Jan. 6. Winter Games are included in the $10 admission.
