For many of us, a new year means setting new goals and making a resolution or two, no matter what our age is. If one of your resolutions is to get organized, there’s no better time than the present! This goes for your children, too. Have them start 2016 on the right foot by creating their very own dry erase memo board. From chore reminders to fun notes, a simple memo board can keep everyone at home organized from day to day.
The magic behind this week’s DIY project is a roll of Scotch Dry Erase Tape. This easy-to-use tape comes as a paper-backed crafting project. You simply cut off what you need, remove the backing and put it in place. What’s even more exciting about it is that for young crafters who make a mistake with their project, the tape can be repositioned as it’s removable. Paired with a letter-sized piece of foam core and fun washi tape, this project takes just minutes to make.
Materials
- Elmer’s 8-by-10-inch Foam Board 5-Pack (one piece per memo board)
- Scotch Dry Erase Tape
- Washi tape
- Scissors
- Stickers (optional)
- Rope or ribbon
- Duct tape
Instructions
Start out by cutting a length of dry erase tape that’s just longer than the length of the board on either end. (You’ll trim the excess tape off once it’s been applied to the board.) Cut four pieces total.
Next, remove the paper backing from the tape and apply to the board, lining up one side.
Keep adding the remaining dry erase tape pieces until the board is covered. You’ll have a small gap at the opposite end of the board, but that’s OK.
A washi tape border will cover this area. Trim the excess tape from the board.
Create your washi tape border by adding a long length of washi tape to parallel sides of the board.
Fold over the ends of the tape to the back of the board. Repeat for the opposite ends.
To create a hanger for your board, cut a length of rope or ribbon and attach to the back of the board with two small pieces of duct tape. Your board is ready for hanging. Your child could continue to personalize the design by adding alphabet stickers to spell their first name or just sticking a few favorite stickers to the bottom of the board. Add to-do tasks or messages to the board with a dry erase marker. To erase the messages, simply wipe away with a tissue.
