How to Make Minecraft Easter Eggs

Use some wooden eggs and a few other materials to craft these Minecraft-inspired Easter eggs with your kiddies.

Have you taken a look at the craft and holiday section of your local Target lately? Between the Handmade Modern lines and Spritz collections, Target offers a great selection of DIY supplies. One supply that caught my eye recently was a pack of plain wooden eggs. Pinterest users have been having fun transforming eggs into fun characters during Easter; these eggs are perfect for such crafting!

Just about any character is possible (take a look at these Minions eggs!), but this time around I’m focusing on a beloved franchise in our family: Minecraft. Specifically? Creepers. Take a look.

Materials

  • Spritz wooden eggs
  • Craft paint (light green, dark green and black)
  • Fine paintbrushes
  • Toothpicks
  • Plastic food storage containers
  • Stiffened felt (green)
  • White pompoms
  • Hot glue and glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Dry beans

Instructions

Painting eggs may sound intimidating, especially for smaller hands, but the trick is to work in sections and practice your patience! Start by holding the bottom of the egg and painting the tops.

To let your egg dry in between painting sections, pour a few cups of dry beans into a plastic food storage container. Nestle the egg into the beans and let the paint dry. Once the top is safe to the touch, hold that portion and then paint the bottom of the egg. Add additional coats of paint if you like.

While your eggs are drying, you can prepare the “bunny” accessories. Cut a small V-shape pair of ears from the stiffened green felt.

Once the paint on the eggs has dried, it’s time to give them a creeper face. Using a toothpick, create the outline of the pixelated eyes and mouth. Fill in with additional black paint. Let dry.

Finish your eggs by gluing on the ears and pompom tail to the back of the egg with hot glue.
