Navigating the dining scene with kids sometimes isn’t easy. You have to wonder about kid-friendly amenities like highchairs or coloring books, and whether the menu offers something appealing for those picky eaters.

Luckily, in Sterling Heights, a delightful array of family-friendly restaurants rises to the occasion. Below, we’ve shared some of our top recommendations.

Art & Jakes Sports Bar and Grill

This sports bar has an extensive menu with some really great options including Bang Bang shrimp, paninis, wraps, fajitas, nachos and more. Their kid’s menu is for ages 12 and under and includes cheese pizza, buttered noodles, Jake burger, grilled chicken salad, Mac n’ chz, tenders, spaghetti, Alfredo, Lil’ Jakes chicken dinner and mini corn dogs.

BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse

This family-friendly chain restaurant has an extensive list of brews for the adults and tons of food options for kids. Their kid’s menu features chicken tenders, mini corn dogs, mini burgers, grilled chicken breast, Mac ‘N’ cheese, mini deep dish pizza, boneless wings and a create-your-own spaghetti option. They also have their own desserts – mini Pizookie and kids’ sundae.

Carrabba’s Italian Grill

Carrabba’s offers a specially designed children’s menu with a range of choices. Classic dishes like spaghetti and meatballs, pizza, and chicken tenders are among the many cuisines that kids may try. 

City Burger 

This burger joint is great for everyone! It has burgers named after cities including The New Yorker, The Tucson, The Philadelphia, The Dallas, The Detroiter and much more.  For the kids, they have a chicken tenders meal, fish and chips meal or sliders meal. All kid’s meals are served with fries and drink.

First Watch 

This restaurant makes fresh, made-to-order breakfast, lunch and brunch. It is open 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. daily. Their kid’s menu features steal cut oats, half waffle, chocolate chip pancake, bacon & egg, French toast, granola bowl or a grilled cheese if they aren’t feeling breakfast.

Flaming Grill Family Dining

For families seeking a warm and pleasurable dining experience in Sterling Heights for breakfast, lunch, or supper, another option is Flaming Grill Family Dining. There are items like French toast, hamburgers, hot dogs and fries on the kids’ menu. The beginning cost of the children’s meal is about $6.


Stop in to create your own burger or have one of their exotic burger options or Fudds Famous options. The kid’s menu features burgers, grilled cheese, hot dog and chicken tenders for only $6.59. If you want to upgrade to a kids shake, add on another $2.49 – in flavors chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, peanut butter and Oreo cookies.

Grand Azteca

On the menu of Azteca, kids can learn about and savor the delightful flavors of Mexican cuisine. Food for kids of all ages is available, including simple yet delicious quesadillas, top-notch chicken tacos, and mild, savory burritos. For the kids to keep them occupied until supper, you may find coloring pages and crayons. Great music is also playing throughout the establishment.

Ike’s Restaurant

This Lebanese restaurant is great for the whole family. Although they’re known for their lamb kebobs and chicken shawarma, they also have a variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes. They offer pancakes or French toast for ages 10 and under for breakfast and for lunch their kid’s menu features fish and chips, cheeseburger, chicken strips, grilled chicken, cheese quesadilla and spaghetti.

Portillo’s Sterling Heights

This Chicago-born hot dog chain is now in Michigan. Grab a famous meal which includes fries and a drink or other menu options like hot dogs, beef and sausage sandwiches, beef bowls, char-boiled burgers, salads and more. Although they don’t have an actual menu for kids, they offer many kid-friendly options. Also, make sure to grab a slice of their famous, homemade chocolate cake for dessert.

The Pantry 

This family-friendly restaurant is most known for its unique and hearty breakfast options, like their oven-baked pancakes.  For kids, they have silver dollar pancakes, French toast and a breakfast combo with an egg, toast and either bacon or sausage for breakfast. If your child likes lunch more, they can have peanut butter and jelly, grilled cheese, chicken strips, hamburger or fish and chips.

UNO Pizzeria & Grill

Order deep dish pizza, Chicago thin crust or Detroit-style pizza at this local favorite. For the kiddos, they offer cheese pizza, pepperoni pizza, spaghetti and meatball, jumbo cheese ravioli, tenders, chicken & stix, Mac & cheese and a cheeseburger. If you’re ordering a takeout, purchase a kids’ make-your-own pizza kit, which includes cooking instructions, pizza crust, sauce, cheese, pepperoni, a pizza coloring sheet and crayons.
