Kiwi Crate Handmade Hanukkah Craft Kit for the Holidays

Kiwi Crate has become a favorite kid-friendly craft subscription service of mine to give family and friends. As I heard about their plans for holiday craft options, I was curious to find out what they had to offer in addition to Christmas kits. Turns out there are several creative Kiwi Crate holiday options! From Thanksgiving to Hanukkah, Kiwi Crate has the holidays covered. For this week’s Make It I was able to take a closer look at the Handmade Hanukkah kit, which runs $19.95.

Packed with two fun projects, it’s perfect for getting the holiday spirit into high gear at your home. And you can expect some neat materials and inspiration inside the kit – including a fun idea to take the projects one step further.
Inside the Handmade Hanukkah kit, you’ll find the “My Menorah” and “My Dreidel Spin Art” projects. The menorah is a decoupage-inspired project that relies on LED tea lights instead of real candles. Pre-cut pieces of tissue paper are provided – to be applied to the plastic votive holders. Glittery Mod Podge adheres the paper to the plastic for a shimmery look.

The dreidel project comes equipped with a wooden dreidel and squares of plain paper that are inserted onto the handle. A quick spin of the dreidel and several squirts of paint make for slightly messy fun.

Instructions

1. Using the shipping box provided, remove the top and use the bottom as your work surface.
2. The box neatly captures the flying splats of paint as your child’s artwork is created. Thank goodness!
3. Once your child has created the spin art, what can you do with the finished product (after it’s dried, of course)? I wondered the same thing – and thought a set of handmade Hanukkah cards was a great way to go.
4. Using an included piece of paper, punch out a small circle and a small rectangle to act as the backdrop for your favorite Hanukkah stamps. (These stamps are from Paper Source in Birmingham.) Stamp and let dry.
5. Add the small circle to the center of the spin art square to cover up the small hole. Use a tape runner to secure the two pieces of paper together.
6. Add your stamped artwork to blue card stock and trim to size.
7. Add a piece of navy ribbon toward the bottom of a flat card. Round the corners of the card if you like. Add your spin art to the top.
8. Add your Hanukkah message on top of the navy ribbon.
9. Pair your card with a matching envelope and seal.
