Michigan First Summer in the Village

Lathrup Village kicks it up a few notches when its annual one-day Michigan First Summer in the Village returns to the Lathrup Village Municipal Park, on June 15, 2013.

Head to Oakland County for this year's newest attraction, the amateur barbecue cook-off! Enjoy some summer barbecue fare freshly prepared with an ice-cold beer from the Mini-Pub. The Mini-Pub is open from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. featuring Michigan beers. Beers are $2.

Kids have a bunch of activities to choose from including the Huron Metroparks Mobile Learning Center from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., face painting at 11 a.m. 4 p.m. and the Michigan Native Butterfly Farm from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Let the children get creative and build a birdhouse or flower box courtesy of Home Depot of Southfield – or complete an art project thanks to Arts & Scraps.

Hungry? This festival's got you covered! Food vendors offered are Detroit BBQ, Kettle Corn of Michigan, Inc., Motor City Frank – and that's just the beginning. Some of the barbecue choices are pulled pork, pulled chicken, ribs, beef brisket and more.

There will be live entertainment featuring tribute bands. Allen Scott is a Tim McGraw Tribute artist; he performs from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Or check out Toppermost, a Beatles tribute band. They perform 3-5 p.m.

There is free admission and free parking, too. The festival takes place 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
