Watch Free Outdoor Family Flicks at Metro Detroit’s Movies in the Park Events

Pack a blanket and enjoy a family movie night at metro Detroit parks this summer.

Looking for something fun the whole family can enjoy together this summer? Check out one of the many parks in metro Detroit that are offering outdoor family-friendly movies this summer.

Bring a chair or blanket, snacks and drinks to watch a flick on the big screen. These outdoor events offer fun for everyone. Plus, some even have music and other fun activities for kids before the movie begins.

Birmingham’s popular outdoor Movie Night series returns to Booth Park on select Friday nights this summer. Watch Migration (PG) on June 7, The Muppets Christmas Carol (G) on July 19 and more.

Reels by the Riverside in Auburn Hills

Grab your blankets and snacks to enjoy a movie at the park. Watch The Super Mario Bros. Movie (PG) on June 8, The Emoji Movie (PG) on July 13, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (PG-13) on Aug. 10 and Elemental (PG) on Sept. 14.

Movies in the Park in Berkley

Part of their SummerFest series, Berkley Parks & Recreation will host two Movies in the Park events. On June 13, watch Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (PG). The August movie is TBD, event will include an ice cream social.

Movies in the Park in South Lyon

July 19; Aug. 16, Sept. 20, 2024

Head to McHattie Park for this summer’s Movies in the Park series! Movies will begin at dusk. Catch pre-movie fun between 6-8 p.m. Watch Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax (PG) on July 19, Trolls Band Together (PG) on Aug. 16 and Hocus Pocus (PG) on Sept. 20.

Movies in the Moonlight in Downtown Rochester

July 20, 27; Aug. 3, 2024

The movies are located in the parking lot at the corner of East Third and Water, one block east of Main. Featured movies begin at dusk and lot opens at 7 p.m.. Bring your own chairs. July 20 is Wonka (PG), July 27 is The Super Mario Bros. Movie (PG) and Aug. 3 is Barbie (PG-13).

Movie Nights in the D at Campus Martius

June 19, 26; July 10, 17, 24, 31; Aug. 7, 14, 21, 28, 2024

Head downtown to see a movie with your friends or family. In June, watch The Color Purple (2023) (PG-13) and The Super Mario Bros. Movie (PG). In July, watch The Fifth Element (PG-13), PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie (PG), Spanish Movie Night: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (PG-13) and School of Rock (PG-13). In August, watch Some Like It Hot (NR), Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (PG-13), Kung Fu Panda (PG) and Barbie (PG-13).

Friday Night Movies at New Center Park

Visitors can grab a chair or bring a blanket, enjoy some free popcorn and settle in for a film in the open-air theater every other Friday. Watch But I’m a Cheerleader (R) on June 21 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (PG-13) on July 19. In August, watch King Richard (PG-13), Barbie (PG-13) and The Color Purple (2023) (PG-13).

Movies at 360 Park in Detroit

June 22; July 20; Aug. 24; Sept. 14, 2024

Pack up your lawn chairs and movie snacks for a great summer series. The first three movies will feature a costume contest. Watch Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (PG-13) on June 22, Elemental (PG) on July 20, Kung Fu Panda 4 (PG) on Aug. 24 and Daddy Day Camp (PG) on Sept. 14.

Movies in the Park in Garden City

June 19; July 17; Aug. 16, 2024

Bring your lawn chair or blanket to watch movies beginning after dusk. Watch The Super Mario Bros. Movie (PG) at Rotary Park on June 19, Kung Fu Panda (PG) at Garden City Park on July 17 and Trolls Band Together (PG) at Rotary Park on Aug. 16.

Head to the Civic Center to enjoy pre-show activities, music and an outdoor family-friendly film. July 17 features Mainstream Drive and Trolls Band Together. July 24 is Interstate 90s and The Super Mario Bros. July 31 is Collision Six and Kung Fu Panda 4.

Movies in the Park in Shelby Township

Aug. 24; Sept. 7, 2024

Families can enjoy a drive-in style movie night at Stony Creek Metropark. Bring your own food and drinks, movies are free but a Metroparks daily or annual pass is required to enter the park. Watch Barbie (PG-13) on Aug. 24 and Ghostbusters Frozen Empire on Sept. 7. Note: The movies are free, but a Metroparks daily or annual pass is required to enter the park.

Movie Under the Stars in Macomb Township

Aug. 9, 2024

Enjoy an event of kid-friendly activities and your favorite movie on the full screen. Kidzone will be packed with inflatables, games and more. Concessions will be available for purchase. Movie TBA.

Families can come to Mill Pond Park to see Minions: The Rise of Gru (PG). There will also be children’s activities, music, concessions and more. Bring a blanket or chair.
