Noel Night in Midtown Detroit

Treat yourself to a night filled with cheer and the holiday spirit at the 47th annual Noel Night on Dec. 7, 2019, in Detroit's Midtown district.

More than 100 organizations, museums, shops, restaurants and more come together to open the 47th annual Noel Night, Dec. 7, 2019, brought to life by the nonprofit organization Midtown Detroit, Inc.

During the day, from 1-7 p.m., cultural institutions and museums like the Detroit Institute of Arts, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History and the Michigan Science Center open their doors to the public for the free “open house.” After, from 5-10 p.m. Midtown Detroit comes to life with yuletide treats, children’s activities, shopping and so much more.

Take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage and participate in some holiday shopping. Create something special at various family craft activity areas. Check out the 200-plus music, theater and dance groups – including Ranky Tanky, Etienne Charles, Thornetta Davis and many others.

Aside from the big venues open for the night, families can swing through other midtown favorites including local shops like Detroit Yoga Lab, City Bird and Nest, among others – plus plenty of restaurants, too.

Visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus at various locations and at various times throughout the festival. Check out the night’s schedule for details.

The College for Creative Studies is offering blacksmithing demonstrations this year and the Wayne State Geoscience club is offering planetarium shows. And don’t forget to check out the living nativity at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul and the Winter Art and Retail Market for some real holiday fun.

Then, as tradition, the Salvation Army Band leads the community sing-along on at Warren and Woodward Avenue at the end of the festivities.

Each venue is offering something unique for visitors. Head to noelnight.org to get a rundown of the planned events and where they’re taking place.
