Disney magic is real – and for many of us, it’s not just that childlike wonder you feel when you enter the Magic Kingdom or watch one of the classic fairytale films.
Instead, it’s encapsulated in the rhythm and lyrics that hook our kids instantly and get stuck in our heads for weeks. From Moana’s “You’re Welcome” to Frozen’s “Let It Go,” Disney songs hold a special place in the hearts of kids and parents around the globe.
And now we know which ones have made the greatest impact so far. This 2019 roundup from Play Like Mum of the top 50 Disney songs ever is a fun walk down memory lane for many parents – and a fresh reminder of just how many of our kids’ favorites (and, let’s admit it, ours too!) are courtesy of the Mouse.
Here’s a look at which Disney songs have been played the most on Spotify, according to the report. You can find the full list here.
1. Let It Go, Frozen
With more than 1.7 billion views on YouTube, it’s obvious kids haven’t let this song go just yet. The irresistible tune may even be making a comeback soon with the release of Frozen 2 on Nov. 22, 2019.
2. How Far I’ll Go, Moana
Inspiring lyrics, a memorable hero and stunning landscapes made this animated film easy to love for parents and kids alike. With 587 million hits on YouTube and counting, “How Far I’ll Go” is certainly going the distance.
3. You’re Welcome, Moana
For the tides, the sun, the sky … and for this song that was stuck in our heads for a year straight! Parents have Moana to thank for this addicting hit, too. You might say it’s a love/hate relationship.
4. Life Is a Highway, Cars
This one was a shocker on a recent Fatherly post about the top Disney songs. But we’re not surprised this Rascal Flatts hit took the No. 4 spot – parents control these Spotify accounts, after all, and lots of us got over broken hearts back in the day with “Bless the Broken Road” and “I’m Movin’ On.”
5. Beauty and the Beast, Beauty and the Beast
Is anyone surprised this song has more than 148 million plays on Spotify? The 2017 live-action retelling of this “tale as old as time” was sure to be a hit thanks to its music and its familiar star Emma Watson – better known to many kids as Hermoine Granger from the Harry Potter films.
6. You’ll Be in My Heart, Tarzan
Disney’s Tarzan came out in 1999 but this Phil Collins song has sentimental value far surpassing the film. It’s still a common choice for graduation ceremonies, father-daughter dances and more.
7. A Whole New World, Aladdin
Think this magical tune’s 56 million views on YouTube and 121 million plays on Spotify is impressive? Keep an eye on the video for the live action version of the song released this spring when the new film came out – it has already racked up more than 22 million views!
8. Try Everything, Zootopia
A modern-day anthem for kids everywhere, this Shakira song encourages kids to “try everything” and keep persevering, even though they might fail. It’s the perfect soundtrack for the adorable 2016 film Zootopia.
9. Love Is an Open Door, Frozen
Even knowing how Hans turns out in Frozen, it’s easy to get hooked on this charming and ultra-catchy duet.
10. Under the Sea, The Little Mermaid
When Sebastian tells Ariel the human world is a mess, we can’t help but agree. Sometimes you just need a three-minute imaginary escape where “we’ve got no troubles, life is the bubbles!” Based on the upbeat tune’s 137 million views on YouTube, we’re not alone.
